Where do you find a good croissant in the Bay Area?

Bingo

Here you go:

Le Croissant

Ste 210
San Rafael, CA 94901
(415) 456-0164

Like Daddy and I used to get in Paris :thumbup

My most recent one was sold about 6 weeks after getting the Hyper because it wasn't getting ridden. I came close to buying a GS before I bought the Hyper, but I was seduced by the Italian hottie. :party

Sold the K-LT?

Sold the K-LT?

No, it was long gone by then. I had an R1150R. My wife didn't like the LT. Thought it was boring, so I replaced the LT with the R. Didn't originally intend to sell the R, but every time I went out to ride I'd look at the Hyper, look at the R, get on the Hyper and ride away.

You gotta do what you gotta do. I can understand the bored thing though with BMW passengers...especially on the touring bikes. This is the plate I was "forced" to get for the RT...

Didn't read the thread, but Cafe de la Presse in SF makes their own croissants in-house and comes recommended.

I like the Costco ones.

They aren't bad, but lacks the crunchy crust that I like.

As for the OP, pretty much any bakery/bread store has pretty decent ones (for me anyway). The Costco and Safeway ones aren't too bad is you lightly toast them.

so craving one right now

Not for me, thus the thread.

Maybe I just didn't try the right places but I didn't think any of the pastries I had in Europe were all that special. I do have to say that a French bakery on the island of Martinique has to be in the top 3 of any I've tried anywhere.

I wanted to say "try Patisserie Philippe" in SF but apparently they closed the Townsend store... don't know why. I have recently been there and it all looked good. Anyway, they are saying they will be opening in another location, keep an eye on that. Best "French" croissants so far and other pastries/ cakes, too.

I <3 Boulanges....

their french pastries are awesome cuz it's not so french...

You'll most likely have to wait in line, but Tartine's is fucking amazing for pastries and croissants. Try to go in an off hour. I find that between 8-9 on Mondays are generally not that bad. Weekends don't even try unless you're there at 8 or after 1.

I also recommend picking up some sweets while you're there too.

Edit: yeah it's not in East Bay, sorry...

Finally went there today. Pretty darn good. :thumbup

:thumbup What did you get?

Just the croissants and a cookie. The sandwiches looked great, but I didn't have time to hang around. BTW, I brought one of the croissants home for my wife, and she approves too. Good stuff. :cool

I want to throw my coffee on these guys at *$ :

Hi, I'll have a ventee kappacheeno blah blah and a cwuhssohl'.

Er, a what?

I sad I'll have a ventee kappacheeno and a CWUHSSOHL'.

What's the last thing?

A cwussohl. Don't you know they're French? I took 2 years of French in high school 25 years ago.

Do you pronounce it kroy-sant?

Another good frozen version (let them rise over night before baking) is from the Milk Pail in Mountain View. Delicious!

Do you pronounce it kroy-sant?

I think mine is close to cruss-ahnt. But I'm not pretentious enough to pronounce Italian words with a Californian accent and then try to win the French Oscar when ordering my pastry.
