Why do you hate going to the gym?

The other problem with gyms is that every single wall is mirrored. It's dumb because the only purpose of mirrors is for checking your form when using free weights. So why not limit mirrors to that part of the gym only? For machines and cardio, mirrors aren't needed.

And as far as the claim that people like to look at themselves, that's only true for people under 35 or so, IMO. I'm willing to bet that about half of gym-goers would rather not be reminded of what they look like. Not just their body but their face too, after a certain age. Yet all these big chain gyms like 24 Hours think that everyone is a hot 20-something who wants to ogle themselves.

Isolation is something for bodybuilders and people in need of profound rehab.
That's been my experience/observation in the latter-- the single leg resistance press was quite popular for the hordes of knee injuries. I used to watch them while doing rehab on my ankles. :laughing

Bullshit. Exercising groups of muscles rather than training specific movements is the fastest way I know to cause the sorts of problems that you claim machines will solve. Isolation is something for bodybuilders and people in need of profound rehab. Everyone else needs to train movement patterns, and the proper muscle strength proportions will occur naturally.

Ok... the world has changed somehow because you say bullshit.

The trainers, who were getting their clients on fitness magazine covers, that I have worked with were obviously not as informed as you, the physical therapists I have worked with were not as experienced as you, and the orthopedic surgeons that repaired my joints were obviously not as educated as you. My apologies for sharing what I have learned from other professionals.

To the OP: Find a cardio sport you'd like to do and get a small weight set/machine for the house.

Does your company have a gym for employee use?

...

Sooooo, why do YOU hate the gym? LOL

I don't hate going to the gym, but a lot of times I hate exercising because I'm too tired.

My coworkers are into body weight exercises; so they've been doing pullups, handstands, and balancing during lunch time. No need for gym. Perhaps you might look into that?

I should get started with an exercise routine though. I just found out how weak I currently am when I can't even pull a 30# bow too easily (the draw weight for women/teens).
