It's REAL, you doubting b!tches... Honda RCV1000 v4 street bike

Well that gives me confidence when the guy building them thinks they're all less than perfect! :wtf

I think that guy is just being honest. Welding is an artform and not unlike artists, I doubt you'll get either to tell you they ever got a piece 100% perfect. That doesn't mean the welds are inferior, just not perfect.

True... to pass the Feds noise requirement Honda installed 2 maps in the ECU...
one US at 98 RWHP and the other Euro at 108 RWHP... all that was required by
the owner was to snip and solder 3 wires on the ECU bundle...

HRC Wire Mod for any prospective RC45 buyer...

Glad they made it easy for us. Looks like the original owner of my 45 already did that mod.

Not like it matters for me but hopefully the new RCV will have a similar solution.

So is the problem that programing the robots is simply too expensive compared to hand welding a few chassis, or is it that the welding is too complicated for a robot, so the only recourse is to hand weld?

Apparently, you interpret perfect differently than the guy actually doing it, too.
:rofl
If it was cost effective to have machines build these limited number of bikes, Honda would do it. It is not, so people do it.

i didnt actually tell u how i interpreted the word "perfect"

that half of the page was devoted to the aesthetics of the weld. do u think the rider cares about how pretty they are? of course the "artist" could find something he'd want to improve. obviously HRC finds the welds to be functionally within tolerances, otherwise they wouldnt use the frame or the welder. a robot would fit within the same tolerances.

id bet its a combination of the two

weldi9ng is absoultely an artform and the visual quality of the weld has a HUGE HUGE part to do with hpow satisfied a welder is with the final product. its pretty hard to overrstate just how important it is. its an aspect of wleding tjhat goes beyond functionality and into a personal satisfaction and siganture of the welder

My stick welding signature is that of an off-handed 4 year old.

That's me Larry

Here's #42:teeth

Obviously, I really like V4s.
One small NC30,
one medium, RC45,
and one large, RSV4,, then there's the NC35 in front of the 45.:ride

Larry you have an RC45 owner registery?

I started in 98 and out of the 500 homologated world wide I've tracked 80
owners... most I know personally and continue to help multiply their riding
pleasure and divide their maintenance grief... some RC45s arrive in a
crated...some arrive by transport... all get love and understanding at the BLS...

37 North American...
32 Britain Germany France...
4 Japanese...
5 Australian...
1 Netherlands...
1 Philippians...
1 Italy
1 New Zealand
1 Ireland
1 Denmark
1 Norway

Good luck uncorking that thing without the custom ECU that's likely flashed and number recorded at Honda for legal emissions purposes.

We're well past the days of "just snip the wire to unlock the HP".

This thing is fucking terrible across the board. I've seen Desmosedicis ridden in anger in person, and they're awesome, this thing would get smoked by a 2008 CBR1000RR that's burning oil through it's ovaled bores like a 2 stroke.

What a waste of a good concept.

Perhaps someone in the UK can order a UK spec ECU and ship it to the USA.

That "someone" will probably be someone who runs errands for the kind of person who buys $184,000 motorcycles. The ECU (and the rest of the parts) will undoubtedly be hand-delivered in a velvet box to the garage of its owner.

Seriously, guys. This thing won't get "smoked" by anything because none of them will be bought by anyone who will have any problem paying for the power-up kit, nor sourcing it, and anyone who thinks it's "slow" is missing the point. The fact that Honda is selling a complete kit in one shot is a damn sight better than the typical approach, which is cozying up to the marketing team at the manufacturer so you can hope to get a chance to buy bespoke race parts on a one-off basis, like you do if you're building a Formula car or a DTM car.

Every owner gets one. This isn't a money thing, this is an accounting thing, and the fact that if a power up kit gets sold to a U.S. Customer, it's going to be a big problem for Honda, because they're going to be violating emissions regs and that's going to lead to a huge fine or potentially lose them the ability to sell in the U.S. This happened to MV awhile back, multiple dealerships ate massive fines for circumventing CA emissions laws with Ducati a few years back, etc.

Each power up kit will be associated with a VIN. US vins don't get the kit. End of story. You don't fuck with government emissions regs unless you want bad things to happen, period. That's why they bothered with the 101hp map for the U.S. in the first place.

Sure, someone could buy one overseas and import it to the U.S. and ride it here but it's not going to be street legal and frankly the entire thing is dumb. This bike is a rolling, incomplete sculpture to Hondas tech wankery and it's not meant to be a real performance motorcycle. Which is exactly why it's a waste of a good concept.

Honda hasn't made a ground breaking motorcycle at least a decade. They've been on the back foot since before the S1000RR and they are just continuing to display why they're backsliding into ignomy. They've got nothing for the 1290, the new R1, the RSV4s, the Tuono, and on, and on, and on. The only Hondas worth owning anymore are CBXs because at least they've got something unique about them, besides that, any motorcycle you can buy from them is at the back of the pack. All their performance/sport bikes are just old. Hope you enjoy riding a bike that's got half of a Fit engine, because that's the modern Honda, ladies and gentlemen - recycled car tech. Eat up!

Edit: oh yeah, the CBX has been outplayed by the K1600. lol!

I think it will be a nice bike but for 184,000 you shouldnt have to pay for the kit separate. You buy the bike street legal and once registered you have the option for one free upgrade to the sport package to the level you want.

Reading up on it it removes the headlights and some other items. For the amount of money spent. I would think you could choose to the leave on.
