-isms will always exist because some need to have a sense of superiority by looking down at others as inferior.

Because they themselves feel lack of control or power in their own lives that they need to play the blame game.

Racism is perpetuated when racists gain acceptance from other racists.

Racism is taught/learned and then ingrained in their psyche. Once that is in their system, just looking at someone with different skin color and physical characteristics unique to a race can set off "hating" behavior. What a great way to live life, just hating others without even trying to get to know them. Their loss.

I have been educating myself on the difference between bigotry and racism, I still don't know which is which. It is all based on ignorance and closed mindedness.
 
Todd Chrisley makes me laugh.

His show shows me Tennessee is such a great place to live, I am considering moving there without changing my non-Nordic looks ... Not

Yeah, white people telling other white people all about white racism. That is all we are talking about, right? I mean there is no other racism, is there? Or is there? Amazing how 12.8% of the voting public (black people) could elect Obama, twice, since America is such a bunch of sheet wearing klansmen. Meanwhile about half the people in cable TV ads are African American. Is that racism, since they are only about 13.5% of the population? Dunno, since every damn thing seems to be a race issue for way too many.
 
What you see on your TV is what networks think viewers want to watch. Some of the African Americans you see in tv ads were once famous, whether they be well-known athletes or actors who were in hit shows.

No, we're not saying all racists are white. I don't know how you can draw that conclusion based on the quantity and variety of posts in this thread.

The climate change issue is a hotter topic than the race issue right now, IMO

But racism will always be an issue.

as a colored minority, the biggest annoyance I come across are when whites and other ethnicities assume they're speaking on my behalf for my benefit lol

It's like, yeah of course you're not racist, thanks for white splaining it for me lol

Was laughing with the kid the other night about how we used be bigoted towards the Irish, or Italians, of whomever back in the day, but these days it's strictly down to color. Basically, we're so dumb that we can't even racism/bigot correctly anymore.

I recall working a contract at Jack London Square. The lion's share of the job was on the phone, entailed private information and I had a cube, not an office. I used my cell 98% of the time and would often leave the office and walk the streets in the area. I recall a few times finding myself on a desolate block. No one in sight except one other person. A POC walking towards me on the same side of the block. I can recall crossing the street to keep a buffer between us. Attire usually had something to with the decision. Was it racist? Makes me think.

In SF when going to Amoeba I'll stroll the street and see the sidewalk crowded with homeless kids smoking and drinking. Filthy and matted hair. But, they're white. Never have felt the need to cross the street. They usually part like the Red Sea when I approach them.

I don't know the answer. I've hired plenty of POC during my career, and have never felt threatened in a professional environment. It seems my street experience is a bit different.

Forgot to comment on this earlier. Nice post and introspection. Be nice to have a non-judgy honest conversation about racism someday.
 
I don't think you can have an honest conversation without feedback with judgement.

This is as real as it can get. Members posting in anonymity. I think people here are posting in honesty.

It's a reality check that there are people saying racism still exists even though you don't detect it in your own life.
 
I for one did not mean to imply that it does not exist.
Just shared my experience in my world that I rarely see it.
Of course it exists. Humans are flawed for sure.

I caught one today about Asian drivers. I corrected him by saying bad drivers, not that I would automatically call that racism.

We all live in our own worlds and have different experiences. Just because I may explain my views does not mean I discount it. I am just explaining what I am seeing in my world and I don’t see much of it.

I think society is quick to jump on statements like mine and say I am saying it does not exist. I am not saying that. I am relating my experience based on my life. It is not white splaining at all. It is sharing my experience. It is for discussion. People jumping on it without understanding it is not fair.
I feel I should not be called to the carpet because my experience does not align with others. It is what it is. My experience.

Racism crosses colors in each way that color of human experiences does. The classic example is white on black, brown or red. That is IMO no longer the only vine for such. It still applies but so do the others.

I love that the Bay Area is so diverse and accepting.
We have come a Long way since Mel Brooks pointed out how racist we were. IMO that is what he was doing. Kudos to him for that.

Now about those drivers. Bad describes what they are. No color involved. :laughing
 
You don't ever need to explain or apologize.
Budman, you've provided the medium which we can get all of these misunderstandings all out in the open. As long as we're not personally attacking each other, this thread and this board helps in having an open discussion.



I also want to add that the more affluent one gets, the more you can afford to be insulated from harsh realities. We're constantly trying to improve our lives for ourselves and family. It doesn't take much to think that once you get to a better place, to lose sense of others who are not so well off.
