2011 Spring Rally -- BARF does Quincy!

A day ride from Quincy up to Tahoe on 89, down Mt Rose Hwy to Virginia City for Lunch, down the "Truck Route" to Carson then up Kingsbury Grade to Hwy 50 to Hwy 28 (or 89 for the long way around Tahoe) and back to 89 would not be a disappointing ride for some :)

that sound pretty good as long as weather is nice :thumbup

Maybe we need a Chrysler that seats about 20. :teeth That said, it would be quite the precursor to the hot tub room pillow fight. ;)

Don't forget your jukebox money! :laughing

Dale, we could pick you up in South Lake Tahoe on our way up Friday.

Sounds like fun! Not sure I can keep up though :ride

You can ride your own pace. Or you'll find a sub-group that matches your pace, :ride
It IS really fun! As long as you like meeting cool new people.

Yep. Worst case scenario is you ride your own pace and meet others along the way and at the destination. There's a way to accommodate everyone. :ride

I'm not doing nooby-duty again.

I think new riders ought to be mindful that these will be long days of miles and saddle time. I imagine over 500 miles/day and over 6 hours/day on the bike. It can be overwhelming on the body, mind, skills and concentration. Plus the influence of the group mentality.

Just stating the obvious in the interest of individual and group safety. As Tom said in the OP, ride at your own risk.

Rally Master,

As far as the actual rally routes and waypoints, are you planning on providing only paper data, or will you be providing GPS data files?

Cheers!

It is Jason. But I think Tom is coming in via the southern passes on Friday and will therefore be driving by me then :)

Oh okay then. I'm still down for that trip on Saturday. I'm always looking for an excuse to ride 341 and visit Virginia City. :ride :Port

I might take 49 to 89 to Quincy for the meet up/go home. I rode 89 to 49 home from tahoe this summer and it was one of my best rides ever....gorgeous twisty roads!:thumbup

These rallies are not about groups, but rather destinations.:)
However, I do have my very specific core group of guys and gals I will only ride with once I get to the destination spot; But yes, it is always ride at your own risk and your own pace/road etc at all times.:thumbup

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! :hand

First, none of the suggested routes have been published yet, and they will be published in the participant package that will come out much closer to the rally date.

Second, I will leading long routes on both Friday and Sunday and my routes are shorter than what you're imagining.

Third, the suggested routes are just that, suggested. If one wishes to take the most direct route from where I live to Quincy they would be riding ~200 miles, not 500.

It is important for folks to enter into a ride like this prepared, and to understand that one rides at one's own risk, but let's not make this thing bigger than it is. We have had lots of new riders come on prior rallies and do just fine. The appropriate caveats are already listed in Tom's OP. No need to frighten people.

Wait until you see the participant package before you firm your plans up too much. You might like what you see. :ride

For first timers, I packed too much on the last two rallies.
Too much clothes, food, computer I never used.

This time: toothbrush, camera, flip flops, 1 change of clothes outside my riding leathers and cash.
Regimen: ride, eat/drink, laugh/drink, horse-around/drink, brush teeth/drink, sleep
then repeat for 2nd day! :ride :drool :staRang :laughing :party :zzz
