2011 Spring Rally -- BARF does Quincy!

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! :hand

First, none of the suggested routes have been published yet, and they will be published in the participant package that will come out much closer to the rally date.

Second, I will leading long routes on both Friday and Sunday and my routes are shorter than what you're imagining.

Third, the suggested routes are just that, suggested. If one wishes to take the most direct route from where I live to Quincy they would be riding ~200 miles, not 500.

It is important for folks to enter into a ride like this prepared, and to understand that one rides at one's own risk, but let's not make this thing bigger than it is. We have had lots of new riders come on prior rallies and do just fine. The appropriate caveats are already listed in Tom's OP. No need to frighten people.
Hey, Kurt.

The an unofficial suggested route posted 2 pages ago is 350 miles. Perfectly between 200 and my Texas-size imagination of 500 miles.

You read fright, I read caution. You say potayto, I say potahto.

Peace and Love,

Marcoose-on-the-Loose.

I think you are doing a disservice to first-timers. The mileage is greatly exaggerated.
500 miles will take you half way up Oregon. Going to Hawthorne wasn't even 300 miles.

What the newbies can feel good about is that there IS NO pace, just destinations.
Make it to Quincy which ever way is good for you and have a good time.

I'm a first-timer. I'm referring to NEW riders. Folks with 2 months and less than 1,000 miles under the belt.

Alright, Director of Hair-Splitting Dept. :) I've already admitted my imagination was running Texas-size wild.

That's a valid statement. Again, I'm not going to offer newbie-duty this time ... well ... unless she's hotter than my wife. ;)

A 200 mile newbie route is not the same as a 350 mile adventure and is a whole different kettle of fish compared to a 500 mile ride. The sky is not falling. The ride is very do-able for a less experienced rider, as have been prior rallies. Kyle is completely accurate.

"Dunno if I can keep up" indicates, to me anyhow, either a rider who is intimidated by some of the banter (presence of a few KFGs pushes this along), or who just rides a chill pace and is trying to be polite about not holding others back.

In either case, the simple fact is that there will be some chill groups to run with. There always are. Since it is a rally and not a "group ride" you also always have the option of riding up solo and meeting the gang in Quincy*. I don't see any reason to discourage Me17Lana from coming along. :x

*I rode solo to Hawthorne cuz you bastids is too slow :twofinger :laughing

Alright First-timers:

Rule #1: You do not talk about the routes.

Rule #2: You do not talk about the routes.

Rule #3: If this is your first rally, you MUST RIDE! :twofinger

ps. Re-read the OP, the routes will be sent you when we get closer to the rally and they are just suggestions, ride any route you want.

You don't need to be an Iron Butt to come on the rally. You also don't need to be a badass ADVENTURE rider to enjoy a weekend with your own kind... the two-wheel kind. :laughing

There is something for everybody. :thumbup

Rectifying my Texas-size wild imagination.

500 miles/day is off base. Sorry. I think some routes may run up to 350 miles/day. See unofficial proposal route 2-3 pages ago. New riders are encouraged to rally, and to be mindful of time, length, health, gear and mechanical condition of the bike.

So am I the only one who sees epic irony in these posts coming from the user name "InNoHurry" with tag line "Don't wait for me"? :laughing

That's the way you would read it: "Go ahead, I'll more than catch up"

I read Marc as "If you get ahead of me, don't wait up"

Todd, you're too damn fast! :twofinger :p

Sound like fun. OK, I am down for this.

I am going to ride no less than 800 miles per day and I don't care what anyone says. I may just be doing laps in the parking lot while everyone else rests.

Just save me a spot in the hottub

Oh my....

Oh my....Go to sleep for a few hours and the post turns serious:| I'd much rather talk about jacuzzies and thongs....:laughing

I'm sure the roads, and those who ride on them, will have a great time, no matter how much, or little, the trips are. Having never been on a rally before, sure I have those 'first-time jitters', but I have no doubt I'll have a great time. So if anyone else is wondering if they should go, come with me. Hwy 89, along the Feather River, was absolutely breath-taking. You won't be disappointed. Riding around Lake Tahoe was amazing too. I'm looking forward to the experience of others to show me more roads. :thumbup

As for trips going into Nevada, very cool. :cool Geisha Blue has never been that state. But if we cross the state line, we CAN NOT get pulled over. I think the warrant may still be in the system.:shhh

Well, I'm off to work. Cheers Everyone.
GOJO

Wait until you see the participant package before you firm your plans up too much. You might like what you see. :ride
You KNOW I go where you go Kurt so I shall wait....:hail

So true.
The rallies and rally masters never do anyone wrong or let anyone down. Don't worry about anyone but yourself Marc. You don't need to.:ride

Actually, I believe you have to check out the Rally Master's package
