2016 AFM club questions

lol

except this issue has been brought up since early last year.... glad its finally getting some attention.

all seriousness, better late than never.

Yeah, and in scheduling the new classes missed this one on the schedule. Totally my error.

To expound on points and manual entry: due to the AFM's complicated points system (starters beaten), we have to do a custom tabulation for each race. With all the extra classes, it's a fair amount of extra work and with DNF's having to be removed manually, that's more extra work. If we had a standard point system, I understand it would be much easier.

If you're doing that manually you're doing it wrong. Find someone in the club to automate it with a tiny Perl/Ruby/Python/shell script.

But you guys don't want standard points system :)
Not only it is simpler but it does not have flaws like this one.

Oh trust me Z, I want it bad. It drives me bonkers how we manually remove people from results that crash/ DNF, etc. Just let the system sort them all out...

I always wondered why the points system was the way it was...

Long time ago when grids were full and no transponders it was easier to give everybody points so they have something to use for grids. At least that was story sold to us back than.

But back in those days, you only got points for the top 39. 40th place and back got a goose egg.

But we had DBcom! The biggest PITA is removing DNF's manually. I don't even get that one. Just let them get points, even if they only finished part of the race.

I thought everybody got 1 point back than.
75 points was cap.

I think you're right. We still have that in the rulebook.

Are there any classes that have more than 40 people in them? I know some of the grids are more than 40, but those are experts and novices starting together so technically it's 2 classes. I'm ok with getting a 0 for being in 40th place or later in my class. Maybe we can get a petition together for removing the finished-ahead-of-x-racers points. If that makes it easier on the workers I'm all for it.

Either way, I don't think removing DNFs should be done. I think 0 for a DNS but the DNFs started at least, and everyone that finished passed them.

I do this sorta stuff all day long, if there is an interest in having someone do this then I'll raise my hand

Probably not any more. Remember we have expert novice separation now. Before all were scored together.

I've had (in a few rare cases) where we've lapped people and crashed a few turns from the end of the race. The lapped rider is not able to complete the last lap (lap 5). We were 3/4 the way through lap 5, yet because I crashed, I got 0 points and the lapper got points. That makes no sense to me...

Thanks Mike. I'll keep note of it and get ahold of you if it's needed. I'll work with out Chief scorer and see if that'll help.

I'm not understanding what you said. If you crash, then you didn't finish. Why would you get points?

Because you started the race and completed at least 1 scored lap.

what is the def of a "scored lap"? I dnf'd on lap 2 and got zero points iirc

Scored lap is anytime you cross Start/ Finish.

Perhaps this year is the year to start discussing the point system and converting it to the same system that FIM uses...
