2016 AFM club questions

Question about membership application:

I have mine all filled out and got my membership through by scanning and sending it off to the AFM. Got my electronic copy of my license so it's all good.

However on the application it says they need the physical signatures/application before I start. Should I mail this in now or just bring the hard copy to round 1 and that will work?

Most likely you are good now. Bring it with you just in case.

I have not sent in a physical application in quite a while.

For renewals they do not need a hard copy that has been notarized, but as I understand it for new applications they need the hard copy, preferably in advance by snail-mail but can probably be brought to BW, just check with Lisa first to make sure bringing it to the track is OK. The more you get done in advance the better, gonna be a pile-up in reg at round 1 ;)

Practice on 2nd bike

Berto or anyone in the know

NEW FOR 2016:
Second paid practice is $85 for Bwillow/Thill and $100 for Sonoma

Why? That's quite an expensive practice day for people that run two bikes. And, its not even a full day. Whats the reasoning behind this?

I'll probably pay it for this round but after that i wont. Only because were sorting out a new bike. Ill probably even consider selling the other bike and dropping a class or two.

I'm not really in the know, but they changed the layout mid last year. The default used to be to share one practice seeion with 2 bikes. Now the default is 2 different practice groups. If you are only riding one group you shouldn't have to pay for 2 bikes

Still waiting on clarification but the email I got did say NEW FOR 2016 2 bikes/1 practice.

Dave is correct. We dropped the price of a second paid practice in a second group. The cost to run a second bike in the same paid practice group is still free.

In regards to tech:

No holes in belly pan? Had a race last year where it rained and they made us drill 2 holes in it, front and rear. Can I seal it up with rubber plugs tape etc or do I need to put some fiberglass down?

kinda defeats the purpose of the belly pan no?

If me I'd do the smart thing and glass it up prior to tech, you've got enough mental stuff going on at a first day with a new org on a new-to-you track. Worst case is rubber plugs sealed tight with fuel resistant RTV - but however you do it they'll check to make sure that it keeps oil/liquids in the pan and off the track. First weekend you'll bring the pan with you (or return with it after your bike is signed off) - after that you'll have it off the bike for tech every weekend, they'll give you a sticker that will approve you for the year, then you don't need to bring it for the remainder of the year as long as the belly pan sticker is still on the bike each time through tech.

All pro series require holes w plugs. They seal just fine and don't come out if u cut the hole correctly. I can't remember if anyone saw mine at AFM last year. I won't cut em for this weekend but they'll b there by Oct.

Awesome I'll find something to seal those off with. Thanks guys

Well ha yea but it was super wet and from what I gather they rather the water drained out of the pan then stayed in there and sloshed out when it shoulnd't

WERA event, AFM doesn't race in the rain. :)

MRA Colorado! Was funny got to do the warm up before the race but it was raining so hard they couldn't keep dirt from washing off the track. Had to cancel so was more or less for nothing

Did get some rain tires out of the deal and a couple laps on those. That was a first haha

Buddy of mine had a photo taken of him during that practice session lol. It was super wet. too many big puddles

Just use a well nut. Same thing that most OEM windscreens are held on by. Sold in many different sizes, never had one fail tech. :thumbup

I rode more in the rain for the AFM NRS in 2002 than I've raced in since that time. :teeth

I raced in the rain at Sonoma with the AMA and that drops on a brick shit till it was red flagged due to accidents. Horrible.

That's AMA and Sonoma, I wouldn't race in the rain at Sonoma, it is slippery when wet. B'willow or Thill would be fine in the rain. Always thought it was funny that I did NRS in the rain, riding through puddles in the esses to get my racing license and then never raced in the rain with the AFM. Everyone in NRS just putted around so they wouldn't crash. The GP bikes on slicks were especially nervous. That was long before trackday providers did NRS, 1/2 day in class and 1/2 day on track, grid up Sunday morning with your class, novice and experts together. first race of the day, 450 class gridded with Open class, man was that an education, getting passed on either side by the open class leaders battling for the lead at the exit of Riverside. :teeth
