2018 Dakar Rally time again **Spoiler thread**

Joan Barreda is out, almost surely a KTM win.

The Dakar post on Instagram doesn't site a crash. It's alluding to him pulling out due to exhaustion.

He crashed again, hard. Whole tail section busted off the bike and exhaust header broken off just ahead of the foot peg, plus reinjured his knee. Plus it was a marathon stage so the HRC mechanics couldn't have touched the bike until the end of the following day.

Barreda had surgery for a broken wrist about 5 months ago, too. There was some speculation then that he wouldn't even be ready to race the Dakar. I heard one of the last crashes he had was hard enough to cause him to be pretty loopy afterwards. l'm guessing that's the one that busted up the tail end of his bike.

Barreda is clearly the fastest guy out there, but raw speed isn't enough at Dakar. There have definitely been times that he's been his own worst enemy. I like the excitement he brings to the Dakar, and I was really hoping this was going to be his year. He has broken my heart so many times in the past, though, and this year has proven to be no exception. :(

Super bummed that Rosa Romero Font and Gabriela Novotna had to withdraw. I was rooting hard for both of them. Mirjam Pol on her Husqvarna is still in it, though, running about 26 hours behind the leader.

My favorite rider, Laia Sanz, is running a solid 13th overall. Her goal was a top 15 finish, so she's got to be happy with that. She's 30 minutes out of the top 10,
though, so I have high hopes of an even better finish for her.

I always get the sads when the Dakar is coming to a close. My boss will be happy, though, as I will actually get something done at work when it's all over :laughing

Sanz is solid and one tough racer.

Short’s interview told a tale :laughing he has been Dakar’d pretty good.
 
Ricky Brabec's Dakar has come to an end today on the penultimate Stage 13. His HRC Honda had some mechanical issues, and there is word that the bike caught fire. He started the day in 6th Overall, fantastic results so late in the race in only his 3rd Dakar. I am looking forward to watching him in 2019!

That is a bummer... the effort these guys expend is outrageous.

Even the camera dudes are working their asses off. The whole Dakar thing is one hell of a deal to put together and pull off. Props to all the folks that work it to provide us a view into true passion.
