2018 Dakar Rally time again **Spoiler thread**

If they were doing 5 hour a day coverage, I likely wouldn't watch any of it.

If NBC was showing coverage 5 hours a day I'd have to take a leave of absence from work! Regular life comes to a screeching halt for me every year during the Dakar. Between scanning for all news coverage, following my favorite riders on www.trackingdakar.nl , and the thread in ADV, I barely have time to shower or sleep!

Go, #15!

Nice pre-bent pipe, mine usually look like that after the fist get-off!:teeth Oh, and no rear fender.

I've always wondered why Rally bikes used that style of pipe. I have always assumed it was to keep heat away from the shock and the intake system, but it could be to put some weight down low. Does anyone know for sure?

Mattihas Walkner documentary on his 2016 Dakar injury, road to recovery, Dakar 2017 (where he was the first loser) and the upcoming 2018 Dakar.

Edit: apparently this video only goes up to the beginning of the 2017 Dakar. Seems odd KTM/Redbull sat on this for a year.

:thumbup

IDK for sure, but think it is to make room for gas tanks ...? :dunno

Here is Chavo Salvatierra's 2018 Dakar race bike:

"It is a KTM XCF 450 motorcycle that has been modified for rally."

... pic of the high-pipe racer with a bash-plate and number plates ... :ride

... be interesting to follow his progress and
see if he has any issues with range in 2018,
without the front tanks that the KTM 450 Rally bikes run ...

... looks like he ran a KTM 450 Rally in 2017 ...

Great collection! I have seen an instance of each of these machines parked in either SF or Oakland at some point in the past decades. We should be able to get a Paris-Dakar replica bike group photo somehow.

I don't feel too bad about that. She's faster than a lot of people :laughing

In 2015, she was faster than all but 8 of the entire Dakar moto field, finishing 9th overall. She finished 15th overall the next year! I think the most impressive thing about Laia's Dakar career is that she has finished in every Dakar Rally she's entered. That is sooo difficult to do.
