2024 Formula 1 thread ***spoilers***

That's was super fun to watch. The competition is looking real good for next year!

Formula B is gonna be crazy again next year, and potentially closer to the front of the field. I think Formula A is going to have a hard time consistently scoring points with both drivers because the rest will be consistently in the top 10.

Is it me, or is Franco overrated?
I think he's now rated perfectly. The whole "you're only as good as your last race" showed everyone that he's nothing special.

It seems that Franco has zero chance of being on the grid next year. Sergio will get canned, Yuki or Liam will move up, and Isack Hadjar will get the VCARB seat.

I know it does not mean much, but Carlos Sainz (in the Williams) was second fastest in testing just over .1 sec behind LeClerc (in the Ferrari). Carlos did just under 150 laps.

I think that Sainz is one of the most underrated F1 drivers, RB may some day regret not over-riding Verstappen elder's objections to picking him up.

My opinion on RB not over-riding Verstappen's dad is that his dad knew Sainz would be a detriment to Max (would take some of Max's thunder) and would take points away from Max (which would have made it much harder for Max to be a multi champion). I think RB is looking for a driver that can score top 5 points consistently but not beat Max.

I think that Verstappen is going to go the way of Vettel but with less grace, not that Vettel had grace... :laughing

Without a dominant car and being the FIA's golden child I don't really expect him to win any more WDC's.

Norris is looking like the next golden child, but they could choose somebody else as well.

2009 when Button won in the BrawnGP car (it was dominant at the beginning, but was out developed by other teams and less than half way into the season was very much not a dominant car).

2007 when Raikkonen won in the Ferrari and McLaren was the dominant car

There are others, 1999 - Hakkinen, 1991 - Senna

And when Max won his first. Yes, the title was handed to him in the last race, but he had to be there in the points for that to have happened.

In 2021, RB had passed the Mercedes as the best car, IMHO. And, yes, the FIA stole that Championship from Hamilton, the way that race ended it was a long slow train wreck that you could see was being set up to hand it to Max.

Every team wants a Bottas for their #2. There are no more Bottas's on the grid IMO. Oscar might be the best #2 next year, assuming his title challenge falls apart early and he starts to help out.

Define "dominant car".

The 2010 RB wasn't dominant. The 2012 probably wasn't either. Both had very close drivers ships and the constructors weren't blowouts.

It was at this point I stopped giving any shits for this 'performance' / Netflix entertainment / show.....

Too bad they ruined a nice thing, but lets be real: Going fast on a road is no longer perceived as an elite / dangerous / unpredictable / needed. I would much rather watch the Baja 1000 where they got little rules and the cars are on the limit the whole race and 1 puncture can be recovered from with good driving. Where 2 REALLY good drivers need to pair up to win a whole peninsula run because 1 person can't stay awake that long (going 10/10's). And now with Starlink streaming the live SHOW potential is quite nice!

In 2010, RB only took 15 of the 19 poles and won 9 of the 19 races. Their problems came from Webber and Vettel taking each other out and getting in each others way.

Liam Lawson to replace Checo at Red Bull.

Let's fast forward to August 4, 2025.....

"Racing Bulls has decided to remove Liam Lawson from his seat after yesterday's Hungarian Grand Prix. Team Principal Christian Horner stated that he would like to thank Liam for his professionalism and his time with the team. Horner did mention they have someone in mind to replace Lawson, but at this time it is not Yuki Tsunoda. The Milton Keynes outfit will take the summer break to find a replacement for the departed Lawson."

I won’t be surprised if there’s a competition for the fewest races at RB. Gasly survived 12. Can Lawson get fired in fewer? Maybe Yuki will even get a shot after they go through Liam and Hadjar 😅

It is official...Sergio is out, but the replacement has not been announced. I hope it is not Liam as he has not even had a full season in F1. Red Bull has gone down this road a couple of times (Albon and Gasley). They need to choose a more seasoned driver. If not, I feel the Liam will be kicked to the curb (in less than 12 races) and might not have a F1 career and Red Bull will not win the Constructors Title.
