2024 Formula 1 thread ***spoilers***

Don't think Yuki's fast enough. Like him, but he has yet to reach podium.

Yuki hasn't been in a car, yet that could reach the podium.
He got 30 points which isn't bad in an 8/10 car.

They tried a seasoned driver with Checo. When the going got tough, it backfired. And it put them in a really bad spot with their driver academy.

They need to give a young promising driver 2 full seasons without them having to worry if finishing 20s behind Max will get them fired after 10 races. They also need to use that other driver to develop a car that isn’t on such a knife edge, one that almost any F1-caliber driver can put on the box.

Yuki ruined his chance by being a tantrum throwing baby. He’s grown out of it but isn’t fast enough to unburn that bridge.

No to RB putting a dev rider in the #2 seat....Don't see that happening if they want to win manufacturer battle.

I kinda wonder whether Perez's drop from challenging Verstappen may have come about with the loss of Newey to help him tune his car, his drop in performance was inexplicable at the time, but seeing how much Verstappen's success dropped with the loss of Newey in the paddock might be a clue.

Of course, a car specifically designed for Verstappen's tastes could have further reduced Perez's performance.

Ya that shipped sailed a while ago. The car isn’t good enough and there is no better talent remaining than their junior drivers. Their best shot at trying to fight for the manufacturers was signing Carlos.

Maybe they knew the car wouldn’t be good enough so their deprioritized that ship.

Anyone know when Fernando's contract is up? Wondering if Lawson is on a 1 year deal (which I think he may be).

I saw something that said Yuki is tied to Honda, and with RB partnering with Ford after next season, it didn't make sense having a driver with ties to honda on the squad.

That right I was wondering who will do the engines for RB instead of Honda, now those are REALLY long in the tooth.
Lets see that FORD motor company make something as good as the GT40.

Ford is a technical partner, not an engine supplier. The engine seems to be called a RedBull-Ford. It seems like Ford will help with the hybrid system and supply chain most of all.

RB Powertrains is filled with ex Merc/AMG engineers. They likely have a lot more F1 engine expertise than Ford.

But yep, Yuki lost an up-side without Honda working with RB.

I think that Vestappen's run of WDC is over,
I think that he'll go like Vettel but less gracefully, not that Vettel faded gracefully. Perhaps he'll have a few bad accidents when the next guy like himself and Vettel enters F1.

2025 F1 may have ZOOG-level equipment parity and the ship will go to whoever makes the least mistakes. I don't expect the RB to be fast enough to win often, but that may not matter. All the drivers will probably trade wins and take points off each other. Max is very consistent and could win the ship with more podiums.

I expect 2025 car improvements to correlate with the 2024 constructor positions. So Merc, RB, and Ferrari will improve more than McLaren. It could be a good year for George and/or Charles.

I think that we can look forward to the most completive year, across more teams, than we've seen in over a decade, in 2025.
It should be a good year of racing for F1.
The next year, I'd put my money on the team with Adrian Newey.

Aston is the perfect place for Newey to show the world what he's got, with little chance of an * or anything. Aston has been stationary, seemingly unable to improve at all since 2023. So we know what Aston can't do. Newey cant start at Aston until a few months into the year, so he'll have no impact on the launch car. I fully expect Aston to have improved almost nothing with that first 2025 car. But if the car finally starts improving 3 months after Newey starts... I'm 100% blaming that success on Newey. I think Aston is close enough to get an odd podium if Newey can really improve the car.

How many constructors can snag an odd podium in 2025? 7? 2023 had 6, 2024 had only 5.

McLaren won the biggest money in the constructor's though, so we'll see what they do with it.
