A better chain lube!

it helps to run a damp rag with some kerosene over the chain after lubing with the good oil. This gets a lot of the extra lube off the chain where it is not needed.

I've used Maxima Chain Wax on both street and dirt bike for years, and a little bit of what all of you say is true. I only use WD-40 after washing. No oil/lube is permanent, so cleaning often, and reapplying is necessary for long chain and sprocket life. I would think some product useage is better for racing applications than street(vise-versa), like engine oil(did I mention that?), chains, and tires.

FWIW......a number of yrs ago I wanted to get away from Chain Wax because it collected around the counter shaft and held the grit etc.

Called a high end chain mfg and asked what they recommended, then asked, "what do you use on your chain. He said WD-40.:wow

I don't know, maybe he was just trying to sell more chains.:laughing

ok that why i don't have any squirels on my bike.

so i bought this product. my chain was kind of dirty. i try to clean it up, but the result wasan't great so i just applied the teflon product. after riding under the rain, my chain was cleaner than before. but my swing arm receive some grease from the chain. i just reapply some after the ride.
so far i like this product. i don't know how long the chain will last on the long run. i used many different brand of grease, pj-1, chain wax, champion... all of them just left heavy residu on the sprocket cover, even aftert wipping down the chain. they were messy to apply also.
the dupont teflon spray is very accurate. it doesn't blow in a mist, but more in a directional jet, so you can apply lubricant were you want.
i haven't use it for my cable yet, but look good to me. and the smell is not to bad.
so if this product works good on the chain, this is great because it is multipurpose and instead of having 2 or 3 different spray, i will just have one. i wish they made a samll bottle to carry it on the bike.

I was into the maxima chain was, but ever since I tried this new PJ1 black label heavy duty I'm sold. when you spray it it bubbles up and then settles. Stickiest shit ever! The stuff is like weatherstripping glue, sticks like no other

Back when I had a chain, I used gear oil.

Cleaned and reapplied weekly. Dirty, yes, but effective. 26,000 miles on a 1000RR and I still had another 10,000+ miles left on the chain.

? How do you know you had 10K left?? So you get 36K out of one chain on a liter bike? :x

Based on an estimate from the current wear level.

I had only adjusted the chain a couple of times and was still on the very far forward edge of the wear scale on the bike. There was no obviously wear at all when inspecting it, even comparing it to other bikes.

Made a mess of the bike, but the chain was lasting forever. And I have heard of others getting up and over 50,000 on various bikes. Keep it cleaned and oiled, not dirty and waxed.

This stuff works great. It really does go on clear and dries clear.

From far away, it looks like there's no lube on it at all, but up close you can see a waxy layer on top of the chain.

Less time spent cleaning my chain = more time riding! :teeth

I've used it but it doesn't seem thick enough.

adjustment has to do more so with stretch and tension. the wear on the chain is on the rollers and on the inside surface of the side plates. i used chain wax on 1 street bike, and 2 race bikes with no problems. i agree with the "keep it clean" part... and thats about it.

What part of "inspecting" did you miss? I didn't just oil the chain and walk away, I would check for wear on the rollers, teeth, and plates, and check stretch and tension.

I had 26,000 miles when I gave up the bike, and I KNOW there was plenty more left. I will never find out with that bike. Now that I have shaft drive...

some guys use wd40 on their minis for less resistance... cant do this on the full sized bikes...clean it often as noted...and apply when warm..after a ride

Hey guyz should I use full synthetic oil or dino oil on my chain?????? also plz tell me what octane quieroscene to use to clean it kthx??????
