Any (4-wheel) Overland types in here?

I have been thinking about a Tacoma that can do multiple things - camping and moving furniture and building materials. How easy is that bed canopy to take off and reinstall? Also would the shorter bed be a impediment for moving stuff like long furniture?

It’s easy enough to unbolt from the bed, as most of them only have about 4 clamps securing them to the bed. But truck caps tend to run about 200lbs on average. It’s at least a two-person job to get it off the bed, or you can rig up a pulley system in your garage that can lift and store it hanging.

As for short bed/long bed, how often are you going to be moving stuff over 5ft long?

Honestly I just use the camping setup as an excuse not to help people move big shit. I didn’t buy a truck so I can help people move. And if my friends can’t go to Lowe’s or U-Haul and pay $20 to rent a truck for a day instead of inconveniencing me, I’d find better friends.

Thanks for the answer.

As for how regular moving stuff over 5 ft would be, I'd estimate once every 1.5 weeks.

And the reason for the truck is that getting u-Haul is starting to get old and picking up stuff from farther away gets expensive with uHaul. Although I have friends with trucks, I don't ask for it as it feels awkward for me to bug them every few weeks.

How often do you want to stuff 10lbs of shit in a 5lb box?

Love the pics. Let me know when the next one is and if it fits in my meager schedule I'd love to come show mine off too.

Looks like a good meet up. I spent the weekend soaking in this concrete pool of awesome. (Once i refilled it)

There was some pretty good sky Saturday and Sunday nights. I was tempted to pull out the gear for some pics..
But...

Excellent! :thumbup

I did the same thing last weekend, pretty much. Wait...is it "overlanding" in a Jeep? Was going to take the 610 out to Nevada but the short days and the low temps had me in the Jeep instead. 10º the first night, 5º the next, with a high of mid 40's during the day. At least the water was hot!

Someone put a great deal of effort into that sign. It was made of rebar!

You're safe! It's only overlanding with a rooftop tent, limb risers, and Instagram channel logos! hahahaha! :teeth

Nice trip!

Dang...looks like I gotta spend me some more money in order to join the club! :laughing

I was actually looking at rooftop tents this morning. They aren't cheap. I already have over $1000 in tents for bike camping so I'll probably just keep using them. I do need a rooftop rack of sorts, though, if I want to do any longer trips in this thing. What I really need is a portable hot springs...:laughing
