Any (4-wheel) Overland types in here?

A few mods to the Bison.
Although the AEV Bison comes with more skid plates, all steel (front nose, engine, T/C, gas tank, and rear diff skid) than the regular ZR2, neither have coverage below the trans. The trans does sit up higher by several inches and the ZR2 Bison has steel tube that runs in front of the exhaust crossover to protect the exhaust. I added this AEV guard.

Also installed the winch. Bunch of stuff comes off the front, winch installs from the bottom, then a bunch of stuff goes back on. Ha, that was the easy part, running the wiring, shall we say, took a bit more time. Control box sits up in the engine compartment on passenger side. Instead of the "hook" that came with the winch I installed a Factor 55 Flat Link.

Next up is to fab some brackets for the license plate.

I'm not sure if there's any specific Bay Area groups. But I know there's a bunch of people around here.

I'm liking the tube skid setup on the Bison. I've been thinking of building one like it myself for awhile. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about it, and know you've shown me a great proof of concept!

The first thing I did was cut off the hook and put on the Factor 55 bling. :laughing

I was gonna get around to putting on a front license plate bracket, eventually, it's been a couple of years... I just keep forgetting...

Hey,
Is there an over landing group locally?
Just got back from the Overland Expo in Flagstaff…

OverlandBound is mostly where I go for overlanding stuff. There's a couple of pretty active Norcal Overland facebook groups too.

Boney's pic is proper.

A couple of cj7s, and OG Yota P/U (preTaco) w/no crap bolted to them and the jacked Bug.

Somebody in the back has a RTT but is hiding in shame so that's good. And I can't tell what gen Jeep had to be towed in...

:swoon.

There certainly is a lot of "old school cool" sitting there. :cool

The bug is a 1954 Oval with some tasteful vintage VW mods. Very well could have been the most capable rig there but tops out at about 55 on the highway... Can make for a long day.

The RTT is on the Yota. Then there's the 83 and 86 Cj-7s and the TJ. The TJ runs with the tow bar 24/7 but didn't get used for this trip. Actually, I don't think I've ever known it to be towed. All these vehicles have been resurrected from a yard, ranch, field, or barn and returned to the road.

love your pics, and the info about the 1954 (!) VW, reading there were only 8000 sold in the USA in ‘54.

imagine it was a fun feeling being out in the Black Rock desert in vehicles rescued from sad inactivity … :thumbup

Hey look at that, somebody finally managed to get out of the house. Spent the last week over in Arizona/Nevada around the Colorado river. Took the nephews out paddleboarding and jetskiing on the the Colorado. Flew my FPV drones a lot. It was scorching hot, do not recommend.

Just had a look at the smoke maps, looks like unhealthy air straight north from Yosemite. And it looks like that Oak fire's gonna be burning for a while.
