Any archers in the house?

Things I notice off the bat: his anchor point is much lower. Mine just moved forward to my lip, his is down on his chin. This makes the string press into his mouth/nose. Mine just barely touched my nose. His bow hand thumb isn't wrapping around the bow like mine.

The arrows did noticeably move less if I opened my hand like that, but still danced a little.

My input - if you just 'let go', you'll always get the lateral dance, and it'll be pretty unpredictable, making tight groupings impossible.

Might be worth WATCHING the pros - they don't 'let go', they draw their hand back while letting the string slip off their finger tips.

It used to help me to think of, you're not letting the string out of your fingers, you're moving your hand back until your chin holds it laterally while continuing to draw back.

Your hand shouldn't be bouncing back because of the sudden release of tension, you're actually pulling it back and forcing the string to stay steady on your chin.

Can't research vids at work, but take a close look at the recent Olympics footage.

Where would you suggest to go for lessons? I'm in Sunnyvale, and we tried Palomo Archery, but the second time we went, they were so busy that we did not get a chance to get any instruction at all.

Most of the ranges offer up some kind of free "introductory" archery lessons. Bowhunters Unlimited and Black Mountain Bowmen both offer these introductory lessons but really those are just to get people shooting.

If you want anything further, you'll need buy your own bow and hire a coach. Both Palomo and Predator's have excellent certified coaches on staff but you'll need to schedule those classes well in advance.

RESURRECTION!

I haven't shot my bow in nearly a month now, and probably won't be able to for another couple of weeks (broken ribs). I'm going nuts, archery is like a release valve for my stress. Nothing calms me down more than sticking arrows into targets. It's a good thing I have Borderlands 2 to keep my mind occupied in the meantime.

On top of that, the companies are now putting out their 2013 bows and they've got me drooling. PSE just posted their new bows on Facebook yesterday. I'll be ordering that Dream Season DNA next month.

I got the Diamond Infinite Edge for Christmas. It finally came in and went shooting for the very first time EVER yesterday. I ended up getting bullseyes and staying on the target at 30 yards! I was so stoked!

I do have a bad habit of gripping it to tight though. Trying to lighten it so I don't pull to the right.

Here are pics of my shots. I am shaky and I grip it tight when I release, any tips on how to not grip so tightly?

Nice job, Dar. Regarding the grip, I don't know if it's right, but I got over the death grip by lightly resting the tips of my fingers on the front of the bow instead of wrapping them around the bow.

What kind of release are you using? Also, do you have one of those wrist straps? It totally helps with the grip in the beginning. You are less likely to death grip it if you're confident that you're not going to drop the bow.

Thanks! I was ecstatic! I am using a T.R.U. Ball release. I use two fingers right now but it seems with every release I still grip down with them. Your idea of the wrist straps is an awesome idea! I will look into getting one. I did add a stabilizer, which helped tremendously. I shot for 3 1/2 hours. I am now feeling it :laughing

Getting back into it. Took a break because of a few broken ribs late last year, then got bored.

I just finished ordering some parts from Lancaster, hopefully it'll be here in time to shoot my first 3D match of the year next week.

Anybody interested in buying my Sure Loc Icon 550 Target Sight with a Sure Loc S2 Scope Body w/ .010" pin? Retails for over $500, yours for $350. It was on my bow for a couple of weeks before I decided to go back to my HHA. A lot easier to adjust for range on my HHA since I shoot mostly Field and 3D anyway.

archery?

Any BARFers want to meet up @ either the Stevens canyon archery range?

I'm an "accidental" archer in that I was buying a wallet online and just decided to buy a bow on the spot (mainly to pad my order for a $20 discount). After ordering, I realized that I should get some instruction so I took a 1-hr class at Archery Only :)

Had a good time last Friday from 2:30-4PM shooting at Stevens canyon archery range. There was a rider from SJSU (riding a beatup Suzuki GS) who was also shooting; maybe a BARFer.

Anyway, I'm planning to go again, so it'll be nice to meet some other BARF archers.

I plan to shoot at Stevens Canyon range this Wednesday around 2-4PM.

I shoot a basic wooden recurve takedown bow w/o sights at the 10 and 20 yd targets on their practice range.

Short term goals are: I'd like to shoot local target/indoor matches (like the ArcheryOnly or Palomo leagues) to improve and track progress in Feb. I think a few more range trips would enable me to shoot their field course in late Dec. PM or post if you'd like to coordinate, and we can work towards our goals.

It'll be nice to setup a regular BARF group archery shoot meet up.

Sorry for bumping a zombie thread, but I got my first Robin Hood today. I got a new arrow rest, and I decided to just shoot a few arrows through it to see if it would group. I didn't bother adjusting anything else. Well, I guess it does group after all...

BTW, I found out that I really like the owner of Archery Only in Fremont. :thumbup

And, in case you're curious, this is my new arrow rest.

Putting a group together for the Black Mountain Unmarked 3-D League starting in March. Who's in?
