Any updates on Joy Higa's and Brant Wiwi's condition from race crashes?

It happened to Simon Williams too at Thunderhill on his Ducati back in '06, scary. Heal well everybody!

Ohhh Memories--thats me in front of Simon, and Eric Arnold in front of me. I was looking for a way around Eric and Simon comes bombing between us--Im thinking "Dayam Simon's carrying some serious corner speed--he aint gonna make it". Later we found out that his throttle stuck and we promptly thanked him for not splattering us. Good Times.:thumbup

I wish a quick recovery to Joy, Gabe and Matt, that was a "tough deal" seems we have some pretty major starting drama every other year at T-Hill

sears crash

Glad everyone is basically OK! Like Ken, I've been in all kinds of screwed up situations. I've had a stuck throttle(Talledega,89') and no brakes(Sears Point,00'). The former was at the start of the race(I went from 10th row to first into the first turn), then off into the grass(luckily I didn't hit anyone) pulling the clutch, locking the brakes, releasing the clutch, smoke pouring off of both wheels, pulling the clutch, missing riders, it's friggin' terrifying! Every time you pull in the clutch the thing redlines and sounds like it's going to blow up. The kill switch won't work at redline. I got it stopped(with the clutch pulled). With those old bikes, I could reach in and pull the plug leads(and electrocute myself). The bike slowly died, and yes I burned my hand. The latter (brake failure) didn't end as well. In 89', I had a lot more time and room than wiwi had. In my opinion there'd be no way to save a stuck throttle going into 10 at thill. As far as the start of the F1 race, we've all seen the best riders in the world pile into each other at the start...racing is hairball! Hope you all are back soon!

i was there the day you crashed at sears. im guessing it was about as quiet in the pits this weekend at thill as it was that day at sears. i didnt have any idea who you were. i just knew a whole lot of people were worried about you. thankfully those days dont happen very often. sounds like just about everybody came out of ok this weekend. bad things happen to good people.

Brant's condition?

Haven't seen any follow-up posts for about a week, regarding the final outcome from everyone mentioned in the crashes referenced in this thread. I'd heard a comment recently ..... fortunately from a very detached 3rd party that may not mean squat .... that raised some concerns.

Does anyone know how Brant Wiwi is doing at this point?

Hoping for good news.

I can't comment on anyone other than myself.

Xrays came back negative for fractures. Yippie!

Soft tissue damage and a bone bruise. My coworkers think I'm into something like fight club on the weekends. Currently high on Vicodin. :p

Hoping everyone else is doing well...

when your throttle sticks.... why not just grab the clutch or hit the killswitch or ANYTHING but fly off the track at a billion mph?

That's what most forum jockeys come up with. You realize it's stuck at your braking marker which usually leaves very, very little time and grabbing the clutch is not going to do much for you (just saw that someone posted my video so let me add - as you can see from the video. That was clutch pulled in AND the front brake jammed on for as much track as I had left.)

Joe, I hope you never experience it and for anyone running a Yoyodyne quick turn throttle you may want to think again

Heal up Joy & Brant

I noticed on Thursday that the tire marks in the grass lined up perfectly with the line that you take to come back across the track after coming down the hill. He didn't have time to do ANYTHING before he was off the track.

Gary,

I asked Jim about what were talking about later on that evening. And he said he might be in a wheel chair just to move around for the short term. Nothing serious or permanent injury that I am aware of.:thumbup

Spoke to Brant today on the phone, he is in good spirt for the most part. Hey tells me he should be out of the Chico Hospital soon maybe this weekend.

Next time I spaeak with Brant I will ask if he would like to share anything here on Barf.

Tell him that Waffles won't come out of his bedroom ever since he visited Brant in the hospital.

:wow

That's one hell of an injury list.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a friend who crashed at Thill several years ago and had a broken femur, collar bone, ribs, several vertebrae, etc., and he has had a full recovery.

Get well soon.

I hope you have good medical insurance. :/

Wow.

I wish you the best and speediest recovery. :hail

Great post Wiwi. Don't forget the $1K I leant you on Saturday AM.

BTW, I'm having trouble finding the latest copy of "Honcho" and "Blue Boy" to bring to you. Where were you buying those you said?

Get well soon.......if anyone has the website info please post it or pm me I would like to chip in

Thanks
Micah

Hang in there Brant! The knee surgery will suck but it works.

Brant, that's quite a list. Hang in there. It sounds like you've got some great friends already supporting you through this.

I've read before that the AFM has excess medical insurance. Make sure to take advantage of that.

If you want any help going through all your paperwork please let me know if I can help.

Damn dude, sorry to hear. Heal up fast. Hey, if you want inspiration, my buddy and racer Josh Galster shattered his C1(?) and it was SO bad the Dr's said he'd never walk again... 2 years later and he is back racing and WON 5 races for us in MRA last round!

You can (if you want) come back and get his Video, "Minor Details" its very cool to see someone else just like you that went thru it and the recovery and now back racing again.

Best of luck

ERIC
