BARF amatuer musician "jam" meet - Fri, Feb 13, 09

Not sure how many jam sessions y'all have been to, but in general - these are LOOSE guidelines, by the way - the format involves one of each instrument (or two, depending on what instrument) playing at any given time, and musicians rotating so that everybody gets an equal or satisfactory share of play time and so that everybody gets to play with everybody else, and nobody is left out. I don't know what you guys are expecting, but that's kind of what I have in mind when I go to a big jam session.
Sounds about right:thumbup
Dude. :hand I'm rockin with Dokken from get to gone. Someone gets in my way I just crank it louder. Pin it or bin it baby.

:teeth

:rofl

I have a couple of questions/ concerns about this. I really would like to come but I have to say, based on some of the posts here, I am kind of leaning towards staying home.

1. I agree that a big ass jam session like this should be about rotating people out. If there are six people wanting to play the bass and one person plays the whole time, ghow is that fun for the rest of us? Likewise, how is having 8 guitarists and six bassists playing at the same time going to be fun?

2. I have to admit this whole "Jeff, Andy, me and..... need to get together and practice" thing is a bit of a turnoff. What this implies is that you guys are going to work out a few songs and performs them. Once again, how is this fun for anyone but the four of you? This quickly turns from in open jam into a place where the four of you play the songs you have rehearsed. Once again, not so much fun for those of us not INCLUDED in your group. Now trhis is all good and fine, but if you are stating it is an open BARF jam, why be so exclusive. If you want to jam with the other three, go for it. If it is to prepare for this jam, well that's just ridiculous.

That said, I can bring a GK bass amp and 2X10 cabinet. But at this point, I am inclined to find something else to do than attend a BARF open jam where we have five bassists standing around watching the sixth rock out all night long. I think I have some knitting to do or something.

No offense meant, I am just making an observation.

If it helps, I don't think that comment had anything to do with the jam session. We formed a band and played one event last summer and have talked about getting that started again for this summer. The comment was a sidetrack related to that and not to the jam. Nothing has happened as yet, nor will it by Friday.

I'm looking forward to this and plan to go with the flow. Play some & listen some. :thumbup

we could break up into little groups and each group play what they like, 1 or 2 songs per group then rotate.

separating by genre sounds good. Those waiting while others are playing can noodle around or exchange tips etc.

I was under the impresson that that was going to happen anyways because there's gonna be quite a few folks showing up...:confused
Look at RR's post.

This will be like little league. Everyone gets to play.

Excellent, we don't no peeps feeling like they've been sitting on the bench all night :thumbup
Also I personally vote for 1 bassist at a time unless we want to sound like a symphony of dying animals.
I can dig out my Ampeg SVT 3 head and 4x10 cab to bring as a Bass amp for everyone to use, all I ask is that the volume stay reasonable and no one blows it up. Just be respectful and don't be a jackass.
Fair enough?

Whatcho all say?

Enough.

I'm only going to say this ONE MORE TIME, for those who have poor reading comprehension skills. This has nothing to do with this jam session, ffs.

Are we clear on this???

Come on, Mike. :rolleyes

F**k. :mad:rant

Me... I was fawking wid ya:laughing But I guess some folks musta missed this one too...
Listen. This is a "jam". Play what ever you want with whom you want. The "structure" is loose here folks. This is a chance for people to come together and play with others that have the same likeness/taste in music. ...If you don't get, understand, or need clarification on anything I have just said PM me or don't bother showing up.

Srsly... this is going to fawking rock. I can't wait to see this go down:thumbup

This jam is hyped up bigger than an actual concert. I really hope this doesn't intimidate people from showing up and playing. Let's all just have fun and not take ourselves so seriously. :thumbup

I'm looking for a way to transport my cab. I want to bring it but it won't fit in my car

I have a GTI. I can't fit a half-stack in that thing. I guess I'll just pack some guitars. :dunno

Given that we can't all play at the same time, there probably will be plenty of amplification there. More is better, from the standpoint of variety.

My setup is compact, so I'll bring three rigs (though one is kind of a toy):

- Rack with Mesa Triaxis, 2:90 power amp & 2 1x12 cabs
- Mesa Mark IV 1x12 combo
- GK 250ML lunchbox (toy, but fun)

People are welcome to try/use them.

I'll bring my crappy 5-watt Marshall Valvestate. If the weather holds I can bring my Mesa tube head. :drool

you also have a mesa triaxis preamp?... damn I'm jealous :x

Funny side story, My laney head retails at $1,800 new I'm trying to sell it on craigslist or trade it for other stuff that I can sell so I can pay off my credit card bill. I state in the ad that I'm looking for stuff equally priced.

And I get a guy that wants to trade his piece of shit line 6 spider 2 combo amp and an entry level epiphone guitar:wtf...........:rofl
