I'd call the NRA, donate however much it took to get NRA stickers for every damn vehicle in that neighborhood.

Alright folks, I need some CA firearms help.
I've been checking out CalGuns for sale section looking for a gun to buy locally. I don't have a particular pistol in mind, but I want something in .45 and full sized. I enjoyed my M&P a lot and would pick another up, maybe, if I came across one. I'd entertain some full size 9mms as well, but I particularly dislike .40. Only other real requirement I have, is no SA XDs, I don't care for them.
As I search, I'm finding CA guns to be REALLY over priced. Used Gen3 Glock 19s for $600! I just don't get it.
Most sellers want you to pay all the transfer fees. Is there a specific amount that they are? Or is it dependent on the particular FFL? What is a "typical" range?
Being that I've never bought a firearm in CA, I'll need to take the safety test or whatever it is, correct? Is this something I should go and do before meeting for a PTP sale?
After purchasing the firearm, do I need to register it with the DOJ? I've done it with other firearms when i moved back to the bay a few years ago.

You're going to need to take and pass the handgun safety test to get your handgun safety card. Test is $25. I just re-took and missed one out of 30.
study guide is here http://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/firearms/forms/hscsg.pdf?
If buying used you will have to meet in person to do the deal (generally and if the gun is not on the ok to buy cali roster) There will be a $35 fee ($25 dross and $10 transfer). If you buy a new gun the dros is only $25.
Your purchasing and goign through dros is the registration process. You'll have to come back in 10 days to pick the gun up.
As for calguns and used pricing. Dont get me started. I'm not saving $50 to buy a used gun or even knew off some guy. I'd rather do an in store deal and give a shop my business.
Head over to City Arms in Pleasant Hill and meet RRR70 and pick up something you like there. Lots to hold and see what you like. While you're there, put that Beneli semi auto on lay away for me![]()
Fuckin awesome, thanks Dubs. I've been meaning to go give Roman a visit.
agree with everything dubs said...calgun deals are there, you got to have a bot send a push notification to your phone and say i'll take in less than 10 seconds to grab a great deal.
If your ever in the peninsula or close to the airport let me know. We got some variety of pistols if you want to try them out at Jackson Arms. Just bring some ammo of your own to test them out.
Try gallery of guns as it is cheaper than some store fronts or if you can find a gun you like just ffl it. Figure in the cost of the gun+shipping+CA tax+fees and sometimes it is cheaper by 50 bucks or so. Lots of good information on calguns if you find the correct thread
I still want something chambered in .45 that is dead nuts reliable and can sit in the nigh stand. Don't want to pay $1,500 for a SA 1911, because if I ever had to use it in a self defense situation I'd lose it forever.
I'm thinking I'd like to spend around $600, but less is always better. I bought my M&P about 4-5 years ago and my OTD price was under $600. Best part was having a CCW in CT, walk in and leave with whatever I buy. Quite the gratifying experience.
G21 or G30 is what you want then. Dead nuts reliable, eats through any type or brand of ammo you feed it, minimal and simple maintenance, cheap, and you won't miss it long if you do end up using and losing it.
I found the G21 to be too large a grip for my hands. Though the last time I shot one was 5+ years ago and it was a gen3. Doesn't the Gen4 come with interchangeable palm swells?
Anyone wants G41? It's nice.![]()

Can you do SSE w/ blue label pricing?![]()
