Back to guns... so I have my new lower almost finished, but I can't get the pivot pin spring and detent installed. I lost count of the times I launched the detent/spring into the ceiling.

Any tips? (I am thinking about spending the $10 for the install tool... but it will delay the build)

Anyone shoot thier new rifle without the pistol grip? Not sure I want to pin the mag.

Great points Mike :cool

In other news, is it bad if I bought a $9.99 airsoft holster from Big 5 that fit my Glock and two backup mags? :laughing

WillG, just go to calguns.net and do a search for detent spring (no pun intended). There are some great pointers over there.

Personally, I used a small allen key as a guide, until I was able to get the pin in the right place.

The other tip is to do it in a bag, with a white sheet over yourself, or anything that will help trap the spring should it decide to jump ship.

I practiced it in a ziplock bag (meaning I couldn't get it in) a bunch of times until I decided to do without the bag, it was just in the way. I then got it in no problem. Try a bigger grocery type bag, maybe.

If I didn't know what you were talking about, that would make a great sig!!!
:laughing :laughing :laughing

Now that I have a Taurus revolver that is essentially the same thing but better as my S&W 686-3, I'm kinda interested in trading or selling the 686 to get a P99 or CZ75BD/P01. Anyone here want first dibs? $475obo with coolio Bianchi holster? Trade for P99 or CZ75?

If you still haven't done it: Do it with a white sheet over your head, it's too hard to do it in the bag. I did it by having help of someone holding the pin with needle nose pliers while I pushed it down with the takedown pin and then slid it in quickly. Took me about ten tries to get it.

As for the pistol grip or not, you still need something to keep in the spring if you don't have the grip there. I recommended to the gf just to do the pistol grip and fix the mag. It doesn't take that long to change out if you are one day able to register it. If you do go gripless get a 16" upper as it's a bit unwieldey with the 20" upper.

Finally got my first lower finished.

Turns out like some people on calguns, the spring was too long. No matter how hard I compressed the spring the detent would still block the pin. Cut two rounds off the spring and it worked no problem.

spring was too long? i doubt that would ever happen from the factory, did you check if the detent hole had something in it like a peice of aluminum from the manufacturing process? the front detent has a tyiny hole on the side, i dont know why, lube port maybe, but that hole might have lleft some stuffin the main hole, not allowing your spring to fully seat. i have also noticed that some lpk's are machined very poorly, surprisingly the stag lpk was the worst ive ever seen! the saftey selector, the detents, and the trigger surfaces were all poorly machined.

the dpms kit i used before ran circles around the stag kit, i would have thought it would be the other way around, but i was wrong. but i also hear, bushmasters are the best llpk's, so my next will be that

I picked up a CZ 75BD Police 9mm, new in box, 2 mags, night sights, $360 shipped from Ohio, +$55 tax/dros = $415 for a brand new gun :cool
And I like that it's the decocker model, and not the supergaRy manual safety one. :cool
Currently, the FFL has been faxed out, the money order sent (should be there tomorrow), and so the gun will probably be sent here by Monday, so it might be until the end of next week until it gets here, and then the dreaded 10 day wait :cry

Sweet gun, though I want the single action one. Hey, what is the ffl charging? Or if you found one that does free transfers pass along his name. ;)

Cow Palace gun show is this weekend. I'm not going cause I gotta drop off the Aprilia in SF this weekend. Unless someone wants to pick me up at Scuderia and drive me to the show? :teeth

Golly, I wish I could, but I gotta go to Hercules to pick up a new bed. :cry

$55 including tax and dros :) He's in Sacramento

Hmmm, $55 is the tax and dros, but there's no money for the dealer in there. Hmmm. Still, sweet deal on a great gun.

I just called for status on my Beowulf.

Looks like it's pushed off till June. Just in time for me to register and not have a fixed mag.
