BARF Militia

When the police were taking my report for my stolen AR, he got the serial number and ran it with no success.

That kinda ate at me for a while- why wasn't it in the system, and does the system still think I own it?

But I think I realized that I'm just stupid. The cop thought that it was a regged AW- there is no serial number database for long guns, right?

I know why I was confused- I thought that when I DROSed it, he put the serial on there. But when I did another DROS for the replacement, he said he didn't even have the lower in yet. Obviously he started a DROS without a serial- or did he do something shady?

The way it used to work is: speical list guns the poilce can't run at will; it will take a few days for them to get the info back, if they get any. Once they put your stolen serial # in the system it will stay there; so if it's run again, it will pop up.

As for your DROS, IIRC, some places just get the number of the gun they will be recieving and start the process so it doesn't take anylonger than it already is.

Yippee, I found a decent safe on craigslist. Now, if I can get it tonight, I can get the Tikka tomorrow. :banana

PS, if you see my wife, don't tell her.

Mike... I have a safe, you may keep it here and I'll never tell your wife :teeth

Dang it, I accidentally went to the gun store the other day, and discovered a Tikka light rifle in .308 for $500, and now I can't stop thinking about zipping back over and buying it.

But I need to get a new safe before I get more guns. :(
I have two Tikka's I love them constant 2" grouping @ 200 Yds. and no rest! I know where the bullets will hit with them!

Dang it, you guys aren't making this any easier. :x

I guess 10 days is plenty of time to find a safe, right?

Check out Home Depot they have a $400 +- safe that is fire proof. But then again if you are like me you need a safe that can hold a lot more! then try Costco online!

Correct, regular long gun owner info is not stored in a database. Basically they'd have to find out where you bought it and check the 4473 form saved at the FFL. Bascially all the cop can do for long guns is run the SER # to see if it's been reported stolen or not.

So does that mean you have a safe now that you won't be needing in a few days?

Not really - I have a cheap-o Stack-on sheet metal one, but it's worse for wear from the fire. It'd have to be stripped and refinished to be usable.

D'oh... No sheet metal. I'm looking for something a little sturdier... Thanks though.

Wilit- good AK post on calguns. The replies answered a lot of my questions, especially that step by step page someone linked. I'm still undecided if I want to do it or not.

Here's the link to the mag modification for the AK. I'm going to post this link in my AK thread on Calguns too, just for future reference.

Hey, gun show in Vallejo this weekend. Usually sucks but I go there for Miwall. Won't be going this weekend cause I'm riding Saturday and they're usually out of the good ammo deals the morning of the first day.

Man, Steve, I'd love to go riding with you, but I gotta move this weekend :cry You ever do any weekday rides? Aren't you retired now? :twofinger

Ah, frick, I wish. Kids actually came back on Tuesday, plus I have continuing education class Thursday night. :( Pretty much just a weekend rider now. I might be getting a trackbike this weekend that I'll have to take some days off work to get use of though. :teeth

Hey, we ride pretty much every weekend, and it's like 20 minutes from Davis to where we meet. So next weekend. Wait, I'll be at the air races watching Susan's dad's P51. Saturday after that?

Haha I thought about that exact same thing before- just didn't have a gun or mags to try it on

I've got a pretty good idea on how to do an AR 10 round kinda like that. Might be a little funky, but it would be helpful in a FTF/jam.

i had the worst experience of my consumer life trying to order a safe from costco. Basically the delivery co they use (bekins home direct) are complete and total retards. 4 attempted deliverys and i finally had to tell them i didnt want it.
I live on the 2nd floor, they called prior to 1st attempt, i told them, they said cool, we'll send 3 dudes, 2 dudes show up and won't even attempt it. OSHA regs prohibit 2 people from lifting anything over 300 lbs. Okay fine come back w/ more. so they reschedule and come back w/ 3, they get it about halfway up and decide they need a fourth. So they ask me if i know "where we can hire a mexican"
Great idea.Not. I refuse. In getting the safe back down, they damage the box and then want to leave it in my garage. I tell them no, knowing that if it goes in my garage they'll not be back to get it upstairs. So i call Beknins and tell them i only want that safe if they assure me its not damaged (which they did) and send 4 dudes to get it up the stairs once and for all.
well 3rd attempt 3 dudes show up w/ my safe. its damaged.

they send it back, and 8 weeks later, the same driver shows up with 1 other dude. Obviously they can't get it up the stairs so I refused delivery and ended up getting my money back.
Do NOT order a safe from costco.
PS they're made in China anyway, if you care about that type of stuff.
