BARF Militia

I've been practicing almost everynight and day, and so far, i've got my draw down to 1.4 seconds with a 3 point holster. tryin to get below a second. its very impressive watching the main instructor. his gun just appears somehow.

How are you timing that? Buzzer to first shot?

:teeth i PWNZ with the 1911....:teeth

Hi, my name is Brandon and I'm a limp wrister :(

Tell me about the fiber optic front sight? I hate that both my revolver and buckmark have little differentiation between the sights in dark shooting ranges. I think a fiber optic front sight might work well...

You have a review?

Sounds like I need to do a quick disassembly of my buckmark and head back to the range!

I've been using a mix of ammo--Remington Golden leftovers from Dad, and Federal copper washed, and softnosed CCI. Guess I'm lucky that continued lubrication has solved my particular issue!

The fiber-optic front sight for the Buckmark was $30 from Cabela's, (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=hiviz+ruger&noImage=0) and comes with several fiber optic rods in pink and yellow and in diff. sizes, which you can swap out. The sight goes on with an allen wrench, and of course then you have to re-adjust the rear sight to restore accuracy. It really helps me differentiate the front sight visually--in a dark range, the all-black arrangement was tough to pick up. My initial impression is that it did improve my speed of target acquisition and my accuracy a bit.

Are those Remmingtons the big bulk pack? If so, don't use them. They suck. All 3 of my .22's have issues with them. The best bulk pack I've found so far is the Federal copper washed. :thumbup Big 5 sells them, but Wal-Mart has them for about $8 cheaper.

Yup - those are the ones :| I guess I'll blow through them this weekend and buy the Federals :teeth

^^^ I've never had one FTE or FTF when using CCI Mini Mags through my MK II, when ever I go to targetmasters, I stop by walmart in milpitas and stock up.

Both my buddy and I tried the CCI Stingers in our Mk III's (I've got a 5.5" and he's got a 4" barrel) and both of us got better groupings with the cheapie Federal bulk pack. Anyone else have similar experiences?

had similar experience with a 6 shot Rugger .22LR pistol.

On a new Ruger MKIII went from flawless to 10% FTE then to flawless again. We chamfered the bolt shell ejector pin. Extra attention to cleaning the cartridge slot in the barrel.
Still notice FTE after the barrel gets real hot. Thinking it's metal expansion in the cartridge slot in the barrel, holding the spent cartridge little more the usual.

Yep - the CCI is really high velocity, and just like ARs, if it doesn't match your spin rate and barrel, it'll be less accurate.

Coincidentally, it looks like I'll be moving to Utah in a few weeks. I'm taking a pay cut in actual dollars, but a fat raise in real dollars.

If you move from Oakland CA to Logan UT...

Groceries will cost: 25.92% less
Housing will cost: 62.103% less
Utilities will cost: 3.083% more
Transportation will cost: 13.279% less
Healthcare will cost: 25.227% less

Also on the up side: lower taxes, I already have a CCW, cash-and-carry at the gun store, PPT sales don't have to go through a dealer or DROS or NICs, no gun-a-month limits on handguns, no Nancy Pelosi, no Pete Stark, no Critical Mass. :teeth

On the down side: It's crappy old Utah!

But what's funny, is when I flew out last week for an interview (they paid for the flight and a shuttle), talking with the people on the plane, they felt sorry for me possibly moving to Utah for a job, but when I told them it was in Logan, they all said, "Oh, it's nice up there." :laughing

So if you want to try the P7, better meet me at a range within the next two weeks or so, and I'll be out of town next Saturday!

^youre gonna leave the Bay?

:(

Utah is a great state. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Kim and I have it on our states of possible escape routes. :) There's a ton of stuff to do there. If you're an outdoors kinda person, I would consider Utah like California, just without the ocean.

Here's another thing to check out if you plan on moving to Utah. Cheap fuel for a Honda GX. How'd you like to drive around for 63 cents per gallon instead of $4.30 per gallon?

Actually, the airport shuttle that took me from SLC to Logan was a Chevy van converted to natural gas. Thing had 914,000 miles on it!! :wow

Regular gas is still under $4 there, too. It's just gonna suck not being able to ride year-round, though. (unless I can put screws in my supermoto's tires...)

As soon as I get my new Driver's License, I'm picking up a Walther PPS and a Beretta 21a. :banana

Heya fellow barf militia community,
I'm somewhat new to the arms community and i just bought myself a marlin 917V .17 HMR.
I was doing a lot of reading and i found that the scope mounting procedure is quite a task.
I'm wondering if there was anyone friendly in the area that could lend a hand? I don't have a gun vice or the proper torque screw driver to properly mount the scope for the best accuracy, etc. I'd really like to mount it the proper way so i can use it to the best of its ability.
Anyways, if any of you have a bunch of equipment, i'd be very thankful if i could stop by or something and if you could teach me some tricks of the trade.
If theres a simple and easier way to mount without using much of the fancy tools, that would be really helpful..

thank you!

I'd be too chicken to leave the bay area and move to the unknown. But, that's probably because I dont have a degree or job that's not so specialized and in high demand. Good for you for taking the leap!!

Welcome, and congrats on the .17 hmr. a fun but expensive plinker for me. Have you shot the hmr's before?

Sorry I don't have the neccessary equipment for you. I'm not much for absolute precision. Hand feed the screw, crank it down to two finger torque with just half a drop of loctite, sight it, and a little Crown Royle for that kentucky windage! :thumbup

Good luck with your new tack driver!!

If you don't want them, I'll take them. :teeth

Both my Buckmark and Mosquito run through them without a problem, and they're pretty accurate too.

Appraisals

I'm looking for a smith or gun shop to do some appraisals for me. I recently inherited some pistols and a rifle from my father and I need to get them on my insurance.

Any recommendations for gunshops you guys trust would be greatly appreciated.
