BARF Militia

I took a trip out to USI today and put a couple hundred round through the Hamerli Trailside. What a nice target gun that thing is and I'm glad it's mine. Since I just got paid it's time to pay off Ratters and send it away for the 1o day lockdown. Dumb laws. :( The rangemaster thought I was getting a great deal which is always nice to hear. Thanks Steve. :)

Question though- the gun wants to eat standard velocity ammo. Is shooting sub-sonic just as good since the stuff I was using only 1050 fps CCI?

Yeah, I always sell you my stuff too cheap. :laughing And most target ammo has waxed lead. Just gotta make sure to clean it as it does build up. Haven't had a chance to make it to walmart yet, but I'll check for standard velocity stuff.

And Larry, the USI RO on Sundays and Mondays as well as my recent firearms instructor, strongly recommended that I stay away from CCI .45 ammo (Blazers). I suppose his prohibition extends to .22 LR ammo as well. But you can ask him yourself one of these days.

CCI Blazer ammo is made with an aluminum case, rather than brass (or steel). Some people don't like it for various reasons, usually just personal preference or a bad experience or internet rumor, but it's cheaper than brass, and works just fine.

CCI .22 ammo is some of the best rimfire ammo out there.

I like the Blazer Brass stuff from Walmart. Fairly accurate and isn't too dirty, no failure issues here.

Better than Federal bulk?

Tried the Federal Premium Gold Medal, which is frickin' expensive. Like an addict needing her fix, when I ran out of Federal bulk and found I just had to have More! More! More! I practically ran over to the USI range window to see what I could get. Was told by Dave, All we have is this Gold Medal stuff. Winced on hearing the quoted price but bought it anyway. My Buck Mark seemed to love it. Still have 400 rounds of it too.

In cleaning my 1911 today (I was very thorough this time) I found I couldn't figure out how to take out the extractor. As it looked to be one piece with the slide. Apparently the extractor needs to be super clean and is the piece that -- Doh! -- extracts empty cartridges. Anyway I cleaned around it as best I could, using a 3"x5" index card, folded over, to remove all the gunpowder residue and old lube.

Guess I'm going to have to figure out how to take apart my Buck Mark and get at its extractor, so the FTEs stop. Maybe I'll take it over to Canyon Sports and have them demonstrate proper field stripping.

.

Push firing pin in, slide little piece out and that remove the extractor.

anyone going shooting on sunday? I need to sight my new Scope mounted on the .17 and need to sight it in.

I got my M1A to the range today, and man that thing is freaking awesome. I was able to get 1.5 - 2 MOA groups off of the rest. Off hand I was hitting 4"x4" squares of plywood 100% at 100 yards. So much fun the plywood squares would jump 6 or 8 feet in the air when hit. All I had to do was take up the slack in the trigger, lead the plywood square back to the ground and as soon as it touched down send it flying again.

anyone know if the american canyon walmart has a good selection of ammo right about now?

I just signed up for orientation for action shooting and discovered my safe is empty of ammo:teeth

I'm heading off to the FF walmart right now, I'll keep ya posted. But ammo comes and goes fairly quickly, they get new shipments frequently.

Glad you got one. That's where I got my Saiga 12 gauge :cool

Haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Not that I want to shop around for a great deal.. But what with purchase, postage, having to hit up an FFL anyways.. I'm going to see what my 2 local FFL's have in-stock before deciding. Who knows might find something i really like.

<music>One of these lowers is not like the others...</music>

Nice... what's brand is the .308?

heheh got the Noveske :cool

Still thinking about what king of upper I want put on it in the future. I like the ar-10 supersass upper but quite expensive and haven't seen it sold individually. Noveske's 21" upper is also nice and still trying to figure out if an sr-25 upper fits onto ar10 lower
