BARF Militia

Joe's GF was initially chilled by the morning cold wind but as she started shooting his rifle, she got hot hot hot!

Not the GF, just a female friend who I've known forever. but she just recently turned into a shooter too. Lives in Reno...I'll have to make a trek up there this spring to blow stuff up in the desert! :)

Good seeing you yesterday Yvonne, next time we'll have to make sure you get some time in on the Mosin.

Steve, I meant to ask if you needed help moving Chris's stuff yesterday and COMPLETELY forgot until just now actually!! Sorry man!

9M61, do you have to pay to shoot there or is it just drive up and look for an empty bench kind of thing? Also how's the road getting in? Pavement conditions...or is there pavement?

Hey guys I got invited to do a gun shootout enactment. Has anyone ever done one before? Do you have any pointers for me? I think this will be a blast!

Make sure they are firing blanks.

Wait, that's didn't come out right.:teeth

Cow Mountain is BLM land, so it's public. No fee. I've never not been able to find a bench, but weekends are usually a bit busy in comparison to regular days of the week (as you can see).

The road? Well, you need a truck. You don't need four wheel drive, but you do need a truck or SUV or at the very least something like a Subaru. I've made it in a Volkswagen before, but it was sketchy. If it's after a rain, you definitely need a truck or SUV. It's not paved and it's about 4-5 miles of climbing on a winding single lane roadway.

To whoever asked "who would shoot with the barrel on the bag." Perhaps someone who has a forward grip on their AR? It was getting in the way and we were shooting at something over 400 yards away. Thank you for your concern though :thumbdown

the road to the cow mountain range can be a scary scary place. I did it a few years ago in a dodge 2500 with a overhead camper on it, there were quite a few places that i almost fell off the road:rofl

my wife was not happy one bit, and she was even less happy that the crazy road we just spent an hour on led to the shooting range:rofl

so with a lot of help from friends I finally got my ar lower almost complete:thumbup

but does anybody have a spare endplate? it's the part that holds the rear takedown pin and detent in the back of the lower, if you use a collapsable stock i guess you need one and the stock i have didnt come with one:thumbdown

also wanted to thank ratters and wild child for their help and parts:teeth

For driving on North Cow the +other+ challenge is to accomplish the decent without buning out your brakes. Use low gear! and maybe take a 30min timeout half way down. YMMV.

I pulled a Mike T and went to Impact Guns today and didn't buy anything; just looked around. They were running pretty low on everything semi-automatic, but still had good displays of Class III and silencers. I'm gonna have to get me one of those silencer tax stamps!

The niftiest thing I saw was a USFA 12-shot .22!:wow It looked kinda funky with the standard 6 grooves in the cylinder but with 12 itty-bitty holes through it... but it was darn spiffy. Had it been 4 3/4" in blue instead of 7 1/2" in Nickel, I might have snatched it up!

I was also slightly intrigued by a CZ VZ61 in .32 ACP, but not enough to really ponder buying it.

The only other gun I was really interested in was a nifty stainless J-frame S&W, 8-shot .22LR.

I have a 317 that's about the same size, but in alloy, and it shoots loose pretty quickly. A stainless one would rock!

They were selling it for somewhere over $600 though, which is way less than MSRP, but still a bit high. I'm going to keep saving my cash in the hopes of finding a Sig556 in the classifieds, and hoping that no more of the plumbing will spontaneously burst around here.

freakin shite....a skorpion?!

It would have made a good back-up gun to my other .32, but that ammo is kinda pricey.

In other news, I can hear gunfire from my front yard, and it doesn't bother me nearly as much as when I lived in Oakland. It's actually kinda nice to know people are shooting in the hills. :)

:thumbup

I'd love some ammo cans so if you could, please keep me in mind and send me a PM after RRR70 but before tossing them in the trash please! If I had my own I could give Amos his back! :teeth

Saw this and forgot about ya :(

I already have a few empty ones and can consolidate some other half filled ones. Since you are in WC, i'll post next time i hit up USI and you can pick em up there if ya want. I should be out there this weekend sat and/or sun.

A few of my production, CA-legal folding knives are up for sale (removed the last post due to the balisongs and a couple of over sensitive members).

This is my other favorite - the carbon fiber inlay looks great, the blade is high grade S30V steel, and it's a knife made with influence by Sypderco and Kershaw (hence the Spy-Ker name).

Aren't silencers illegal in CA?
