BARF Militia

anyone interested in some micarta 1911 grips? im going to be making some for my soon to be birthday present that either i will buy myself or my wife will surprise me with (ya right) but figure im going to have lots of extra material.
just let me know.

So are there any sure fire ways to tell what buffer tube I will need? I am running a high standard lower, and from all the research that I I've done there doesn't seem to be a real way to tell. I found all the size differences between the mil-spec one and the commercial one and I understand they have differences in thread cuts. I know the lower is "mil-standard" but I would like to order the correct one the first time, any help is greatly appreciated.

The only difference I've seen in buffer tubes is in length, carbine or rifle. What's a "high standard" lower?

^maybe high power? accurate at longer ranges?

im throwing guesses :p

High standard is the company that serialized the lower I have, youknow like colt, stag arms, etc. Just hoping someone would have had some experience with this lower that could tell me for sure. I may have been looking into this wrong, but from what I understand there are two types of buffer tubes mil-spec and commercial or "slant back" style. The commercial ones have a slightly larger diameter and are slightly longer than the mil-spec version. Who knows maybe I am looking into this way to much and just confusing the he'll out of myself.

Like Andy I've only ever heard of carbine length and rifle length. Has more to do with the stock than with the lower. There are some buffer tubes that have a slight slant for holding in the buffer retaining pin but there is no real functional difference. Diameter should all be the same. Just buy a complete stock that you like that comes with the buffer tube, buffer, and spring and you'll be jsut fine.

Thanks guys, I must have been over analyzing with the fear of ordering the wrong parts.

Anybody own or shot a Nighthawk 1911?

I molested one yesterday and now have the uncanny need to molest it on a regular basis.

You going to buy a Nighthawk now, Al?

1911s ... Mmmm mmmm. :troy

Not just yet. Simply got to paw at some yesterday and wondered if anybody has shot one (Ratters?). The fit looked and felt immaculate. A trigger so crisp it made me hungry to run away with it and spend a few days shooting it. Still a little out of my budget, unless i unleash some gun or bike selling on the public.

With as "square" as the front hand guards are... I want to say that is a Rock River Arms upper. Since he's LEO, I'd bet it's a FULL RRA M4. Also that an EO for sure, and I can't tell if that is a GG&G or YHM flip rear sight.
