BARF Militia

Thank you CMP! I just received a 5.46 million Springfield from the CMP. I had requested a service grade, and wrote a note requesting nice parkerizing and nice stock. I hit the jackpot on this one! The rifle is unfired, except for the CMP's test firing. Absolutely no wear anywhere on the metal. The stock has some storage marks, a few dings and two deep gouges. She will clean up really well though. It's resting in the safe tonight next to the Correct Grade H&R I received back in February. Overall this rifle is in at least as nice condition as the Correct Grade, and once I swap out the trigger group (it came with a complete H&R group) with a virgin Springfield one it too will be correct grade. The kicker is it cost me $400.00 less than the H&R Correct Grade. :party

I'll have to drag all the Garands up to SVRG one night and have a Garand fest.

I'm thinkin' this year is the year I finally order a Garand. I'd love to get a nearly-new one!

I got one that has probably never been fired since leaving the arsenal. I got it at Gun Broker for $1,100. I think I got it for a pretty good price, especially since it is made by Winchester. I'll shoot it for the first time on the 15th hopefully. :)

Hurry up and get your request in! I sent a polite, slightly ingratiating note requesting nice wood and parkerizing. So far the only parts I see that are "incorrect" are the gas plug (HRA, which is collectible in its own right) and the bolt, which is a WWII era heat lot. Both should be easily traded or upgraded for the period correct parts. The trigger group on this one is a cherry complete HRA one, but sitting on the desk in front of me is a period-correct virgin SA assembly ready to drop in! The parkerizing matches the rest of the rifle. The wood is very dry, but with some TLC will be brought back to acceptable status.:teeth

Where will the breaking in take place? It would be cool to be there with my latest acquisition.

If you want 9mm, why not a Glock 17 or 19?

:thumbup

thats what I just got for my first handgun. Only thing that worries me is keeping it loaded for home safety. There is not external safety, the trigger is the safety. I guess I should get a holster to keep it in.

Wow. Just wow. I can think of 'bout a dozen examples of automatic handguns that totally blow away that theory. Mostly because the mags are not part of the hand grip.

Those automatic handguns that DO use the grip as the outer shell of the magazine are also (mostly) designed to be as ergonomically efficient in target acquisition.

And one advantage of an automatic handgun is that it holds more than the (safe) five or (less safe) six rounds in the revolver's cylinder, sometimes up to 15, depending on the caliber and length of magazine.

He lives in Kalifornia.

Did you get the 17 or 19? I'm looking to buy a 17 as my first. How much did you get it for and where?

Wrong. You are the safety.

Should i bring anything special? Besides my wonderful self of course :love

I'm in unless the wife and i take off for the weekend to the gun show. Doubt we will and i think i may wait till the Nov show to go up there.

I just know that I might be late. Checked the calender this morning to find that I'm babysitting in the a.m..

A holster will not make it any more safe. You have just as much chance of putting your finger on the trigger pulling it out of a holster as you do grabbing it from a nightstand.

Is there a public range down by you? I have never been to the one at Fort Ord, but it's the nearest one to you that I am aware of. Are you ever on the San Jose side of the hill? I frequent a local range on Tuesday nights, and you would be welcome to try a few different firearms if you let me know where your interests lie. I have a Beretta 92FS Vertec which may be close enough to the Beretta you mentioned. If nobody else steps up, I would be willing, given enough notice, to make the trek to a range that is local to you. Of course, this only applies if you agree to keep the end with the hole in it pointed away from me. :twofinger

wow Thank You. I am going to do some more research on guns before I decide to go down this avenue.

I really appreciate your kindness.:)

There's also Markley's in Watsonville. Rent before you buy, but keep in mind accuracy of the dirty range rentals will be hit and miss, so rent and shoot to see how the gun feels for you, not so much how accurate each gun is because they're all pretty accurate if kept in good condition.

so you are saying you are going to use an m1910 or some target pistol as a home defense gun that's cheap for someone who is not into the sport of target shooting...

yeah 15rd mags are great but we live in california in case you forgot which limits us to a ten round mag anyway. yeah 10 is a lot more than 6 but if you need more than 6 rds, well you are probly fucked anyway...
