BARF Militia

Great seein' you guys today:teeth

Can't believe I left my ammo can at home....*fail* :mad:loser

From the open carry forum on the local gun boards:

I was in an Ogden supermarket at the checkout line when a 5 year old (approx) boy behind me turned to his mother and said "Mommy, that man's cell phone looks like a gun." As I turned to look she told her son "That is a gun honey, that man is a policeman." I smiled at them and said "No maam, I'm not a policeman." and before I could get another word out she grabbed the boy and dragged her cart backwards to the furthest active checkout from me. As my purchase was being rung up the cashier looked at the woman over on the other isle (who was watching me like a hawk) an said to me "I think you scared her." I said "I guess I did, but I sure didn't mean to." She smiled and said "It happens. At least you didn't try to make a call." That cracked me up as well as the rest of the people in line with me. The mother still watched me as I left, but her look was more confused than scared after that.
:rofl

It's like what I hear at work all the time from parents:

"Mommy, is that a gun?"

"Yes it is, policemen get to have guns. If you become a policeman you can have one too."

It's usually a futile effort to explain to the people in this area that no, it's every law abiding citizens right.

Spent the day today eating lunch with the mother-in-law. :(

At least I got to come home and order the last remaining parts I need to get my Winchester 1300 Defender operational. :D

Ya, sometimes I rue selling it. But I just tell myself I still have plenty of other guns!

Thread jack.....kinda

Some of us were talking today about PPTs and our experiences with such locally.

My 2 cents for those who weren't there.

J&R Sports in Livermore. Outstanding. Great prices on new guns too. Doubt you will find anyplace cheaper on a new gun. Period.

Bullseye in San Rafael. Outstanding. Expensive for new guns, but will work with ya and you can work a deal there.

Antioch Armory in Antioch. Great. Very good prices on new guns.

Irvington Arms in Fremont. Outstanding.

Canyon Sports in Martinez. Sucks donkey cawk and can burn down for all i care. Same for GFAOS in Vacaville. Both are expensive and run by dickheads.

That is all...

I'll add Marin Firearms to that list, Inkman.

Marin Firearms: Good prices, unbelievably bad service. All I did was listen to one worker bitch about the cops because he got caught driving 70 miles per hour in a 55, then pulled over and arrested for being drunk. Yeah, it's the cops fault. Meanwhile, the other worker was on the telephone swearing up a storm about "you shoulda fuckin dealt with me." Neither of which bothered to ask me if I wanted to look at something -- I had money burning a hole in my pocket. I'll never go back.

Did you all have a good range day?

Along the PPT lines, Contra Costa Collectibles - Outstanding. Awesome with the PPT's, super fast, charge the correct price, friendly and have some cool things to look at in there. The guns they have in stock are pricey but I hear you can talk them down a bit.

+1 for CCC. Super awesome people in there.

On a side note, went to Los Altos today and shot some trap with the .410. Good god that's fun. It was also fun me and my buddy busting doubles with it and the older guys next to us with the Citoris not being able to hit 1 clay with 2 rounds :laughing

Alrighty, so...I guess I can post here now.

A few days ago, I picked up a couple of items from the g/f's mom's house...namely, her dad's old 22 rifle and revolver. I'd like to fix them up as much as needed and then me and the g/f can go shooting together.

Rifle:

With that in mind: There's no paperwork or anything like that for either of these weapons. They were purchased in the early 70s in Iowa and have been in the family since then.

They've been sitting for at least 8 years, since her dad passed away.

So...where do I start? I'm in Santa Barbara now, so I need to find a local range, some ammo, and I think I'm pretty much ready to go. Any advice/books to read/websites to read, etc?

First of all you need to make sure you know and folow three rules of firearm safety.

Check make sure barrels are clean and free of rust, sheck mechanisms for proper operations. Take it apart, cleand, lube and put it together.

Go and shoot.

I've got the 3 rules covered.

The barrels are clean and free of rust. Her dad was a perfectionist about, well, just about everything, so it's all in perfect condition. Everything seems to work nicely. How and what exactly do I lube and clean? Are there any basic walkthroughs for stuff like that?
