BARF's Biggest Losers, Gainers, Maintainers....Q3 2015 Edition

So I am a little late at finding this thread but I love all of the stories and updates. You guys are really doing well.

My story: I am 45, 6'1" and stay around 230# when not paying attention nor trying to exercise/eat healthy. My work takes me out of town for 8 weeks at a time which can really hamper healthy eating and exercise routines. I have been using MYFitnessPal for years as a calorie tracker, at first just to track then the inevitable diet modifier(I check calorie/fat content of food before I eat it).

My wife went out of town (Pueblo, CO) for a job at the begining of September :( so I decided to start training. Training for what I was not sure but something :x. Then I decided to do a triathlon with no event in particular. I started running, swimming, and bicycling. I hate running, I suck at swimming at this point but have always ridden bicyles. I finally found a sprint triathlon to use as a goal on December 20th since I figured I needed 12 weeks of training before I was even close to ready. I signed up for the Naples Florida Christmas Triathlon and then it was time to get serious.

I purchased a level three training plan through Training Peaks and really got started on October 2nd at a weight of 228#. Training 6 days a week is the goal with set time for running and bicycling then yardage for swimming. I have modified my diet to remove all processed foods and only eat out once a week which includes a couple of beers (XX:teeth).

So far I am loving the Training Peaks programs and the daily emails for the scheduled training on the following day.

With all that said I swam 1550 yds today at the Y and weighed in at 211#'s and am quite stoked. I have lost approximatly 2#'s per week which is a nice gradual steady loss.

I could surass my goal of 205# by Christmas if I stay at the current pace. :teeth

Cheers and good luck this weekend with your respective goals. :party

Awesome! Congrats on the progress so far and good luck with the triathlon!

Water weight, how does it work?
141 this morning :facepalm
At least the shoulder measurement has dropped another 1/2 inch

I know that I'm building muscle but I still have a lot of fat on me. Working out is becoming a habit.

Nice job with the triathlon training! That's the first I've heard of a subscription based training program. Sounds intriguing..

Hah, yeah when I was really into long distance running I was around 142. Helped my knees by not having to carry so much weight up top.

I've finally started lifting heavy the last couple days. I've been kind of sore but it feels good to get back to the gym. I'm only at about 172 right now and that was probably just fat I put on from eating so much during my week and a half off from the gym.

I was back in the gym this morning, it does feel nice to get back to picking up and putting down heavy things. Today was the first day of a new round for me, lifting monday - friday doing push / pull split. I think I'm going to like the increased volume, but don't quote me on that:laughing

Training for what I was not sure but something :x.

Life, Brother, you're training for Life. Some don't realize it is a contest.

I had a good week! 182.0 this morning! Lightest I can remember in my adult life. I was feeling stuck at 184 so made a big push this week riding the exercise bike everyday, only had a couple slices of pizza and no halloween candy. My goal was to break past the 184 plateau I was on so I'm feeling good!

10/15 185.8
10/21 184.6
10/28 184.8
11/4 182.0

Lolololol it's sad to say but I am almost 2-2.5x your guys' size :( makes me feel like a Goliath. I am 6'6" and currently 316. I was 352 in July of this year. I bought a specialized diverge road bike, hit the pavement and decided it was time to eat better, cut out soda and fucking do something about the additional three toddlers I was hiding.

I was aiming for 300 road miles in 30 days but only achieved around 242miles in 30 due to tennis elbow. So far I have lost 36 pounds in 3.5 months and am averaging 80 miles a week riding just 3 days a week. I had to go buy new clothes cause my sick ass man tits were shrinking.

My goal weight is 275 lbs which would be the lightest I would be in 13 years (high school).

Good work! Keep posting here if it helps with staying motivated. :thumbup

Yesterday was still at 142.4, but I'll be honest that there's been no real effort of any variety. Crazy ass weeks, almost no time to cook, shit hitting the fan all over the place, makes for not behaving. Having a warm, fresh meal becomes my mini retreat from the chaos.

Trying to make semi-healthy choices and at least not make things any worse than they are!!

At first glance thought you said "shitting all over the place" so I was thinking "yes, weight loss, it's happening." :laughing

I'm keeping up the exercise but slacking on the nutrition lately. Had to physically throw away the leftover Halloween candy, it was just too tempting to have in the house. :nchantr

I meant to post up on Friday before I left town. Thursday morning I weighed in at a 208.4 (had to throw in the .4:laughing).

Sunday is the last day of the 6 day training week for me as Monday is always the rest day. On Sunday I ran around the block at my daughters house and was pleasantly surprised that I completed the longest run in 20 years. Exactly 4 miles! Did I mention I hate running.

So I came to Pueblo to visit the wife, train, and play for the next two weeks.

I am a little worried about the elevation here. I have been training in the 500ft ele range and now am at 6000ft :wow. I guess I will find out tomorrow on my hour bike ride.

Chiming in here and reading everyone's progress/failures really is an inspiration. Thank you all again! :ride

I havent weighed myself BUT know I packed on relationship weight since last February. Outgrew some 32" pants, had to reluctantly get some 33s and 34s for work :mad Guesssing I was pushing 170lbs and at 5'6, that's a lot for me.

Passed 2 months, I started killing it at the gym, lifting heavy in everything minus chest (shoulder injury and that angle = pain). My gym installed a system like below with bumpers AND allow dropping weight. Been insane what going 100% in lifts will do. I can pump out sets of 10 pull ups again. I'm near my 300lb back squat again and doing sets of 225lb front squat and back to fitting into my 32" pants. I'm guessing I'm 160lb right now and at 5'6 that's alright. No fat in my legs but could tighten up my stomach. Cardio sucks if I'm not for cycling. I tell myself, lets do cardio and instead find myself doing light weight cleans instead.

Gonna do 20-30min of cardio after I lift next 5 days straight, see how that goes.

bloated back to 190 in the last week n half cause my foot has been bothering me, plus I couldn't resist buying the funsize value pack of twix (my favorites :D)

Need to get a couple of miles this week in

Scales have been going the wrong way for me as well. Been getting in some good bicycle rides both road and mountain, but just too weaksauce with nutrition. Had some back stiffness after I got too enthusiastic with the hot yoga a couple weeks ago, but that's no excuse. Nutrition has been very naughty, and the leftover Halloween candy didn't help. :chuci

OK...

I am late but in.

6'-1"
Current =248
Goal: 205

So 40 + f'ing blobbies to lose. That would put me back in my skinny Helimot leathers.

I was a chubster as a kid. Went through college thinking I was going to be a football star.
220lbs could squat 400 lbs and bench 330... but reality was I was to slow for linebacker and too small to play the line.

So after failing at and finishing school I decided to get back into dirt bikes and race.
I lost 38lbs getting down to 182. Cruised there for my MX years and then went to roadracing. Since I was not running 10 miles every other day and started doing more weight lifting I went up to 190... that was my race weight until I was 31.

After retirement I went to 195 (more weights) and stayed there until 47 or so.. since.. I have creeped and lost some muscle too. Old injuries has made running a no way. Weight lifting is just maintenance now.. same deal.. body parts rebel if I push to hard.

Have a stationary bike, but wife says no way it is in the house and I have failed to make good use of it.

24 HR. cut my teaching from 3 to 2 to 1 day a week. Hence 20 more lbs over the last 7 years or so.

Well I know the means to this.
Back to the gym more often. Ride the damn bike more often and more circuit training with the weights.

I also know being lighter will be better for a lot of things.... so I hope the scrutiny of my fellow barfers weighs heavy on me. :teeth

Awesome to have you be part of this! The stationary bike has been a real help to me. Luckily my wife tolerates it in the dining room the last few months!

I've gained 2 lb so far. I think my weight gaining has stalled and I've been struggling at the gym, especially with squatting. I went Sunday and just couldn't squat. I'm going to try again tonight.

didn't post last week:

t=0: 188
t=1week: 185
t=2week: 187

I'm feeling a good week comin on though...thinking light thoughts, haha
