BARFTRON HOMEBASE

Online multiplayer is the only part I give a shit about. Fuck Netflix, fuck Hulu, fuck 10 different accounts for watching TV shows. If my TV's on I'm either playing a game online or watching a movie/TV show that I got from something other than a service charging me extra on top of my cable/internet subscriptions.

I'm getting sick and tired of hearing about how used game sales is killing the developers. Toyota doesn't bitch about used car sales, paramount pictures doesn't bitch about used dvd sales, music artist don't bitch about used cd sales. Shut the Fuck up and produce a game no one wants to take to gamestop for $0.85 of store credit and you have nothing to worry about. I'm boycotting all EA games until they get rid of their bullshit "online play codes". They are limiting my ability to resale merchandise and it's bullshit.

I don't like EA's online code anymore than the next person, but you're making a pretty unfair comparison. When you buy movies or music, you don't need to connect to anyone's server. Once the distributor sells it to you, that's it. They don't need to consistently maintain anything to ensure your product works. You buy a car, who pays for that maintenance? Last time I checked, anytime I brought my car into a dealership or mechanic, I was being charged for the service (maybe unless you're driving a <4 year BMW). You have an Xbox; you pay for Xbox Live. How is that any different?

I'm not complaining about paying for xbox live (other than paid subscription services don't work unless you have a gold account). Trying to justify "online codes" for using the games servers is stupid (I'm not saying your are stupid, it's just not realistic). So I buy battlefield 3 brand new and I decide to sell it to my buddy. He has to pay $10 to play online... Why? Sorry server use? I didn't copy the game, it's not like me selling the game increased the load on the server. This is about game developers trying to get royalties out of used game sales.

To be clear, I don't sell my games to games top be a use they give you a tenth of what it's worth and sell it for $5 cheaper than a new copy.

What I'm saying is, it costs buku bucks to maintain servers. That $10 one-time fee barely scratches the surface. Take WoW, for example. $60 to buy the game, $15/month to keep playing. Even if I gave my game away free, it would still cost the new user money to play.

The other alternative is to do something similar to COD or Halo; which is have a player in the game be the host. But let's be real here; everyone always bitches about lag, lag spikes, lag switches, host advantage, etcetc. It has its share of problems too.

Personally, I think microtransactions is the new way to go. It makes more money without pissing off your customer base.

EA has said that they're not doing online passes anymore. I'm waiting for Ubisoft to do the same thing.

Well, I refused to buy an EA game while they were doing the codes so if I buy one new EA game, that makes up for how many used game "online codes"?

If it's a good game, people will pony up the money to host their own server.

Just about every server I find on BF3 isn't an official EA one, so it means their taking money hand over fist pimping their servers out to people.

Anyone go for the new Borderlands 2 DLC? Reviews are putting it as the best one. Tiny Tina was easily the funniest character of the original campaign.

Yup. It's a popular service commonly found in PC gaming that found a niche in console gaming.

I remember back in the day, I used to be part of a Counter-Strike clan that hosted its own server. The whole service cost something like $200/month. Thankfully, prices for gamers have dropped significantly.

Did y'all give up or what?

Tried out the new Zombie map. Another "guess where this is" kind of map. Starting to not enjoy the franchise anymore. There is a reason I never liked Zelda.

Tranzit was the beginning of the "parts build things" and now it's just a game of mazes. bleh

imma go back to mw2:|

I friggin prestiged in mw2 to get an extra prestige token in mw3. So I lost all my pro perks, and all the other OP stuff like the one man army/noob tube/danger close setup. But it doesnt matter. Played it a little while back to try and grind to get my stuff back. Every lobby is filled with toobers or quickscopers. It's actually quite easy to slaughter those kids. Famas with stopping power is all you need. If BARFtron went back to mw2, we'd just flat out steamroll every lobby.

Why the fuck don't you guys play HC more? Serious question, and don't deflect with "campfest" whatever usual BS excuses. We all know there's camping in both core and HC.

For me, I like HC because:
1. You don't have to dump half a mag into someone to kill them (little better realism)
2. No map up constantly telling the other team where you are as soon as you fire (unless you use silencers, but then that takes up a slot that could be used for other class setups).
- you have to EARN that map with killstreaks, and have a team good enough to make use of it to keep UAVs up till someone gets an orbital.
- means Stingers and AT4s become more valuable - shooting the enemy's stuff down makes more of a difference in the game dynamics
3. No killcams. You want to know what I'm using, where I shot you from, etc, go watch theater mode afterwards. Play the game and figure it out. Also, faster pace of gameplay without the few seconds of killcam crap in between.
4. Keeps you on your toes more - when the enemy can kill you with just a couple bullets, you have to be faster on your aiming/picking up movement to get them before they get you.
5. Flak jacket becomes a more valuable perk - in core, you can still survive a tube/rocket if it doesn't hit you directly. Not so in HC, unless you sport Flak Jacket.

There are a few other reasons but those are the major ones that immediately come to mind. New roommate has Black Ops 2 for Xbox so I'll likely be jumping on from time to time...soooooo....

Been playing BF3 on the PC. TBH I still prefer playing with a controller. My keyboard/mouse skills have dropped significantly. Flying helicopters and jets have been shit.
