Bay Bridge Commute

I prefer the 1-2 lane split, not just the bridge but in general. Check your sixes, and merge in to let faster bikes pass. It's also good to follow someone else splitting. Try to avoid splitting while someone else is splitting in an adjacent split. I haven't commuted on the new bridge yet, is it better than the old bridge.

The lanes feel wider, but they may be a personal reflection. The shoulders on both sides helps to remove the perception of being boxed in as a cager.

Gawd, the commute today was fucking terrible.

Yeah, not sure what was up with that. The only thing I saw was an accident on 101, in the left lane, a mile or 2 before the 280 split. Must have caused the backup at the toll plaza.

Yea, I dunno. There was a news chopper hovering around the toll plaza and then this right before the Caesar Chavez exit.

Yup, I saw the same things. Seemed like the chopper was probably there just getting shots of the morning traffic, likely caused by this accident. BB wasn't too bad, but the toll plaza seemed pretty backed up. I get on at West Grand in Oakland and traffic was backed up up West Grand. I just hit the breakdown lane all the way to the carpool and made it through fine. Traffic picked up again at 5th street exit all the way to the accident.

Yea I saw that guy get pulled over too, on the red SV (?) with the black gopro. I didn't think he was going all that fast :dunno , but the CHP motorcop was FLYING to catch him before the tunnel.

CHP on motorcycles ALL OVER the bridge this morning - be careful around Angel Island before and after the tunnel... I saw at least one motorcyclist pulled over on the left side just before Angel Island (westbound) and another CHP on the other side waiting (dunno why he didn't go for the squid in front of me who was doing weird swoopy motions between the cars and had totally squared off tires like I have never seen before - wtf?)

How do you get to Angel Island from the Bay Bridge?

Yup, that was me on my red FZ6. I got a 23336VC Violation. He was a nice guy, but scared the SHIT out of me when he pulled up on my right.

Gawd, the commute today was fucking terrible.

And to top it off, the Shoreline/Panoramic just outside of Mill Valley were blocked by road crews/flag men.

Gerrymandered my hours to take in a nice flight up to Point Reyes Station, all to be trapped like a rat in a hat.
Oughtta be a law!

I was wondering whose FZ6 that was, especially when you passed me on the western span. I thought, "Huh, I guess that didn't dissuade him much." :laughing

I have a reverse commute, but apparently everyone expected BART to strike today.
The commute sucked.

That was you in the yellow stich on the green Versys?

Yeah, he didn't disuade me much. This is the first time I've really seen CHP crack down at that time of day. I had to get to work, as we have a very strict attendance policy.

Maybe my head's been in the clouds, but when did the carpool hours change to 5AM-7PM? Just noticed that on the signs today.. :dunno

VC 23336 = "Violation of Rules and Regulations" :wtf Which one(s)!?

That seems awfully vague... "Hey you, quit doing that, whatever it is that you're doing.."

i was told it was for disobeying the black and white signs, aka the speed limit sign. I gave an aproximate speed of 70+ on the ticket, but not LIDAR to back it up. He apparently picked me up from the 880 merge to the buslane on the far right, where he saw me "moving faster than 50".

When the BART strike happened last time, the traffic was far noticeably LIGHTER than when it wasn't.

You should contest it. I hate arbitrary rules that aren't backed up with evidence/
