Best Southern Fried Chicken in the BA?

Isn't there a chicken and waffle place at Jack London Square? I remember that being good.

Honestly though, I think I buy fried chicken only about once every three years.

That place replaced Roscoes. Roscoes is(was) the real deal, the place that is there now sucks ass.

Churches is better than KFC, but is on par with Popeye's, just a little different.

It's been YEARS since I've had Church's Chicken. Most of the locations are gone. I only know of a couple in Oakland.

It's good to hear from you R3DS!X!!

Speaking of chain fried chicken. Has anyone ever tried church's?

Sure, but all of that Dirty Bird chicken tastes about the same to me. (Church's, Popeye's, KFC) Yeah, greasy, salty, chickeny. Cooked, yeah, but not consistent either.

Maybe it takes someone who cares to get good chicken.

:dunno

When did it replace Roscoes? I think I was down there about six years ago.... ("Roscoes" sounds like a name it *could* have been.)

Popeyes is shit and I'll never eat it again.

After being laid up in the hospital for forever I decided that my first meal would be a milkshake and fried chicken.

I couldn't even finish the chicken it was so bad.
Nasty bitter burnt frying oil.

When I was in the hospital I craved Popeye's mashed potatoes and gravy. Ever since being out, the chicken doesn't taste as good to me but I do still enjoy their potatoes and gravy.

interesting, people have a lot higher opinion of Popeyes than I would expect.
I might have to retry

I almost never get KFC anymore. The pieces are small and low quality.

that's because they have to get them from real chickens now that the thousand pound mutant chicken biomass that sprouted wings and drumsticks endlessly was destroyed in the basement of the world trade center south tower demolition.

it wasn't molten steel it was molten chicken. :twofinger

Dad just went to KFC to pick up, nice timing. However the Popeye's is right next to it but for some reason he likes to go for the worst option he can. :confused

I Hurd fried chicken and came a run-in

I knew that we were related!!

Mr. Axe- As others have stated; those chains are not super consistent. Some locations are much better than others. There is a Popeyes, on Homestead in Santa Clara, that sucks ASS!! If you buy a 20 piece meal- they only give you 1 BREAST!! They are cheap asses and I'm sure they don't change their oil as often, so the chicken is not as good.

The Popeyes in Redwood City, is MUCH better. I get about 3 breasts when I order the 12 piece (meal for 1 :laughing).

I still enjoy KFC, but they freaking RAPE you!! The 8 piece (chicken only) is $18.99.

Popeyes always has the 12 piece for $12.99, and it was a few bucks cheaper several months ago.

Was yuck. Salty and tastes like chemicals.

You have to come to Oakland for the best, and the very best is five blocks from my house, so bring your Pits when you come.

Be prepared to wait, everything is cooked to order. Neat people, great food. As good as anything I ever got in the south and better.

Had the Sunday lunch/brunch there today. Food was solid. Fried chicken was a little inconsistent, first piece was great, second piece (from different batch) was a bit dried out. I won't judge the chicken on today though since this was buffet style cooked in large batches, and everyone else at the table loved it.

The rest of the food was bomb though. Collard greens, corn, black eyed peas...all were really good. I'll def be going back. Thanks for the recommendation. :thumbup

Hmm. Now I want to go too.

Maybe I'm just hungry, though. Dunno.

If you're looking for good chicken and waffles the best I've had was from a food truck. Yes a food truck called The Waffle Roost.

This is a strange concept to me as I thought that the point of most food chains was standardization.

1. Prefab Chicken goes in the fryer
2. Buzzer goes off.
3. Chicken goes under a heat lamp
4. Sell to someone

Obviously not changing the fryer oil is gross but other than that I can't see much in the way things could change.

Shockingly the best fast food fried chicken I've had was Jollibee.
Straight up killer fried chicken.

Jolibee tasted bland and like bad grease to me.
