Best Southern Fried Chicken in the BA?

I dunno. When I make my own I season everything, the initial flour dusting, the egg batter and the final flour/other bits. Whenever I get bland fried chicken it's a bit off putting for me. Like eating baby back ribs with no seasoning or sauce. Sure I'll still eat them cause its delicious pork meat but there should be a dry run or BBQ sauce on it right?

I get what you mean.
Maybe it was the MSG/capsaicin dust that I asked them to pour all over it that made it good.

It was the spicy option and the first time I had it I was committed that every other time it would be covered in the stuff.

It was the one on 4th street.
It hasnt been there in a few years but I remember it being pretty damn good for a chain.

I musta went there on an off day. I thought it was kinda nasty. Same one on Fourth st., but it was a long time ago I was there.

Popeye
Church
KFC

That's the quality chain. I almost never get KFC anymore. The pieces are small and low quality.
Over the years I've found that the majority of KFC franchises have crappy flavor, most likely due to them cutting the 'original recipe' that they receive from the headquarters being 'cut' with other ingredients which thoroughly dilutes and alters the flavor. Every once in awhile, I'll find a good one where it actually tastes like it used to, but that is a very rare occurrence.

I had me some real fried chicken, catfish & okra, Sunday in North Carolina.
Damn good stuff.
Locally, I have no idea. :dunno :teeth

People ask me wtf am I talking about when I say kfc used to taste good one time. I've never found a place in years with their old formula. I seem to remember them using more pepper and whatever else was in that original recipe, maybe asbestos or some other banned substance.

When I first moved to California a guy at work said you have to try Church's Chicken. So we went for lunch, I've never been back. Dry & bland. I'm a horrible cook but I thought I could do better.

One funny thing about KFC, is that they sell a spicy version in some of their locations in the hood. The one on corner of 73rd and International (in Oakland) and the one in San Leandro used to sell the spicy version.

interesting, people have a lot higher opinion of Popeyes than I would expect.
I might have to retry

for chain places... I have found popeyes to always be the best

POPEYES
Boston Market
KFC (not consistent, usually disappointing)
Churches

Last night eight of us established that the Southern Cafe in Oakland pretty much is the best place, :laughing
