Not rules that benefit one rider... just rules that make logical sense. How can you have a rule apply to qualifying and not the race even though the same exact thing happens.

you cant cancel a lap in a race, so your request for "logical sense" makes no sense :p
the two situations, race vs practice, arent exactly the same either so i dont think the penalties need to be the same.

there are effectively 2 rules concerning the penalties for running off track, one for practices and one for races.

heres the actual rule:
1.21.3
Riders should use only the track and the pit-lane. However, if a rider accidentally leaves the track then he may rejoin it at the place indicated by the officials or at a place which does not provide an advantage to him.

Any infringement of this rule during the practices or warm up will be penalised by the cancellation of the lap time concerned and during the race, by a penalty decided by the Race Direction or the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel.

I dunno, man...5th in the standings is pretty dang good. Rookie season and all.

http://www.motogp.com/en/Results+Statistics/

Vinales, Pedrosa, Rossi, and Marquez are the only guys ahead of him and they're serious heavy hitters.

Had he actually finished the Qatar race, he might be even higher.

Adding a little spice and excitement instead of the usual. Good to see Tech3 having a good season, compared to last year and "all" the Ducatis.

We'll see how things play out. It's why we're fans and watch.

Haybales. Done. :laughing

Man, Iannone isn't showing too well on that Suzuki.

I thought that his Suzuki was supposed to be easy to ride compared to the Ducatis?

Suzuki has a great frame but their front end has suffered chatter since their re-debut. Plus they have rear grip issues with the rear spinning which is linked to their electronics just not up to par with the top 3 brands.

i think their spinning issues are worse than can be fixed with software setup. id expect some progress week to week if it was a software problem. but the issue seems to be consistently there, perhaps an inherent flaw w/ their chassis. id also guess that the compromises they are having to make to help w/ the front chatter might be making this worse too.

Do you think that there could be something about the center of gravity of the transverse I-4 engine layout which Yamaha have figured out but which Suzuki have not?

what an oddly specific question.

i cant say anything with any certainty about the CGs of either the Suzuki or Yamaha. there are a "million" parameters that go into making a motorcycle and almost as many "solutions" that would produce a fast bike. limiting the discussion to just one parameter prob wont ever work.

Suzuki likely has experimented with moving their engine around. all the chassis usually have some movement built into the mounting points for exactly that. with us being 5 rounds in, id bet theyve experimented with a large portion of the mounting positions and picked the best. but their issues still remain. if they end up finding a solution, i bet theyll change something else AND their CG.
