Burrito Inflation

You're taking a very basic observational and hypothetical statement way further than was intended to springboard into a deep socioeconomic discussion. Not in the mood because it wasn't my intent. :dunno I still don't get bringing up movie theaters. A hot dog at a theater is going to be twice the price as the fast food place down the street same as a beer at a ball game is going to be 15 dollars or more and be less than half that at a bar nearby. We all know that and it doesn't have anything to do with Covid or supply chain problems, so the relevance is lost on me.

I spent more time talking about steaks and burgers and you focused on one statement about an ice cream truck. :dunno

Since this thread started about burritos, it's been pretty good in proving decently priced burritos are still out there but there is a reality of many places that have bumped their prices significantly. If someone wants to go down the socioeconomic rabbit hole with you about cost of ingredients, hourly pay, etc, they can do that. Not me and just not sure why you picked on me to do it.

Rather, you said, "can you imagine?" and I merely pointed out, very simply, that we already can see it in Movie Theaters. You are the one who keeps going back to it. That very easily could have been left to lie with my point about those types of costs already existing, so there as no need to imagine as you stated. You are the one who keeps going on about it, but I am happy to just continue on the topic until I have had the last word if that is really what you want. :dunno

I forget what the marketing tactic is called. Movie theaters had a small ($4) and large ($7) popcorn. They were not selling very many larges so genius added a medium ($6) popcorn. Large popcorn sales immediately went through the roof.

I got to see one of the industry magazine/newspapers for the concession industry once.

And in it was this ad, that I'll never forget.

If was for the cone shaped popcorn cup.

The headline: "Looks bigger! Holds less! Profits, profits, profits!" A line that rings in my head at every carnival and concession stand I see.

Mind, that doesn't mean I'm not buy popcorn. Love popcorn.

I later saw another trade magazine, for Pizza restaurants.

I swear they had 3 articles on "portion control".

...California passed a law requiring an increase in the minimum wage for all employees by $1 dollar a year, every year since like 2018. It will max at $15 an hour for these types of small business with less than 25 employees in January of next year. So if you are a typical 7 day a week restaurant with about 8 full time people, that is around $17k a year in annual increased operating costs, every year. In order to cover that increase, your Burrito spot that sells 50 burritos a day has to increase their Burrito Cost by $1 each, every year for all the years of wage increase.

I get your point, but you math is not even close to correct :laughing

50 burritos * 7 = 350/week
350/week / 8 full-time employee = 43.75 burritos per employee per week = 1.09 burritos/hr

I'd fire them all if they're that fucking slow :laughing

edit: They used to have a food truck by the bar I go to. I'd go there before closing when it was just one person. Aside from the grill already being warm, it was everything from scratch (ingredients out of the fridge and all chopped and cooked to order. Whether she made 1 or 5 didn't matter much as putting it in the tortilla didn't take much. Compared to other places I frequent (La Taqueria for example) she was ungodly slow but could easily pump out 20 burritos an hour (almost assuredly more)

To put that into CORRECT math

20 burritos/hour / $1 == $.05 --> just a tad bit less than an extra dollar :laughing

$46/day

They didn't raise it a buck, it's like 180% more expensive. And why do they need to get it all out of my burrito?

This is a small community supermarket with a full line of shit to raise the price of, and they are probably pulling in more than $20k every day.

Dude, whatever. Keep leaning on a single line in all of my posts. I'm not gonna go ten rounds with you on this. If you'd listen to what I've been saying instead of taking a few words and running with it, we wouldn't be here. But you win, I don't know what I'm talking about. Good?

as someone who's been residing in tx for the last couple years (that ends soon, back to california), whataburger is absolute garbage and I would much rather have mcdonalds or burger king any day

It's all about Mighty Fine :hail

Haha I just wanted to throw that in there. Whataburger is not in n out good completely agree. I will take it over the two you mentioned though.

Gotta wonder how many days I’d have to go without food before I’d want a burger from McDonald’s.

I like a whopper every now and again though.

^ Wouldn't really call it a burger, but it is a high calorie, highly processed salt product, that was worth a dollar when they still cost a dollar. A whopper tastes more like actual food, but costs more like it as well.

Edit: Carl's Jr. had a quarter pound burger for 99c (Big Burger?) that was similar to a whopper, but cheaper.

Burger King is on par with McDonald's. I used to really like Jack in the box but it went to shit too. Wendy's is still a pretty consistently good fast food burger and their spicy chicken sandwich is good too.

I find the spicy chicken at Wendy’s to be particularly horrific. Seems almost a crime that they could take what I assume started life as a perfectly normal piece of chicken and destroy it like that before feeding it to the buying public.

I simply have no knowledge of how restaurants work. Why does the food have to be so bad.

Don’t care much for Carls Jr either. Haven’t been there in years but last time I went I got the $6 burger which by now is probably called the $16 burger. It was simply a hole filler and nothing more. Certainly would never crave one of those. Seemed like some sort of acidic meat substance that left a bad feeling in my belly.

But as I mentioned there something about the Whopper and about once a year or so I gotta have one.

I grew up near where Wendy’s is based and the spicy chicken sandwich there was my go to back in h.s. Fond memories lol.

Saw the thread title "Burrito Inflation" and had to agree.

S/O won't let me in the house for 24hrs after consuming burritos.

I mean, it is pretty easy. You say, "can you even imagine?"

I say, "Bro, it is already out there."

You say, "true dat, Dawg, good point, but shit be cray cray."

I say, "Real talk." and it is over.

I am not sure why you are both looking for conflict and complaining about it at the same time? :dunno

You know, at my advanced age, I don't fuck around with fast food that much anymore, but McDonald's Breakfast is cheap as hell and mofo delicious.

I hit that up sometimes when I need to jam and feed on a busy work morning and i am fed happy for like $5.

I try to avoid anything cooked in vegetable (seed) oils. That shit just ain’t doing you any good.

Back in the day I would occasionally order an Egg McMuffin but had to make sure to ask for no margarine else it was horrific.
Probably been five or six years since I’ve had one.
