Burrito Inflation

Vasquez's..?

Aliens-Vasquez-lets-rock.gif

So, I usually don't' notice the inflation THAT MUCH, like things go up .50 here and $1.00 there and I only grocery shop for myself so I just don't notice it that hard, because I have never been a, "to the penny," shopper, even when I was young and broke.

The recent crazy gas spike I noticed the pain after a while, but mostly meh.

Until yesterday. Now I have mentioned a few times that at my age, I don't fuck with fast food that much, except for the occasional McDonald's breakfast when I am running for work in the morning and don't have time for cleaner food, which is still a really cheap deal. I eat a pleasant little meal on the road for $5 there.

I literally have not eaten at a Burger King in many years. At least 5, maybe more, but I was pressed for time and they were there in the small window I had on a busy afternoon running between locations for work, so I hit it.

I got 2 Sandwiches and a Soda, no fries, and it was $25. My notoriously blasé self was floored by that cost. For those in the know, have prices been creeping at BK for a while or was this a crazy inflation thing?

I can't answer your question.

But I was just on a trip to NYC and stopped in at the iconic Katz's Deli for a $25 pastrami sandwich. Hands down best pastrami I've ever had...by far. I'll take that over two of anything BK has to offer. :drool

I can't begin to express my disappointment in this thread. I thought this was going to be about burritos inflated with way too much shredded chicken, rice, beans, guacamole and sour cream. Instead we're talking money which is not very appetizing to me. I was picturing a big fat delicious burrito coming apart at the seams with so many yummy ingredients. Economics just don't get me hungry.

Red Onion in Havasu, Toy run '14, their pastrami sandwich, one bite, I knew I didn't have enough sandwich. First time in my life, ever, for this was SO good.
I enjoyed another this year in May. I told this story for the waitress, why I'm back.
Not stringy or gristle, really tender mouth melting stuff.

Side note, anybody else notice prices not posted on the menu?

Mc Ds in Hawthorne doesn't.

I can't speak to Katz's, but I've been to Langers in LA.

Oh my! It was MARVELOUS! Just amazing!

Mind, my idea of a Pastrami Sandwich stems from the generic Greek burger joints. A pile of soaked pastrami on a roll with mustard and pickle. That's my "go to" Pastrami sandwich, and they're mostly all pretty similar.

But Langers...Yea, it's amazing. It's really good, and it's not like the generic sandwich at all. I paid $14, but that was sometime ago. The entire restaurant was expensive, but I tell you what it was packed with people and staff and we were served promptly with hot food.

I need to go back there too.

That's what I'm talking about! :thumbup It pairs quite nicely with their mustard, but I think I ate 1/2 of it plain, it's that good. And those pickles are bomb too!

I went there twice. The other time I ordered a delicious combination meal with matzo ball soup, brisket, a latka, and a piece of noodle cougel. So good!

Katz's ships nationally and FYI, their chilled overnight service to CA is totally worth it if you need a taste of real deli food.

I have one or two Jewish friends that I always ship some products to for the high holidays.

Had a buddy move to Las Vegas at the start of the year and his main complaint is that he can't get "Mission-style" burritos over there. I didn't even know there were other kinds of burritos. :laughing

They have Rubio's in Vegas. They have those kinds of burritos.

Any good? I tend to find when I leave CA the beans just don't taste right anymore until I get to South Texas.

I have no idea, the theoretical benefit of chain stores is consistency. I've found the several Rubio's that I've visited here in So Cal to be pretty consistent.

I like Rubio's. We haven't been going to the one near us because twice now we've showed up at lunch time and they're like "oh, sorry, we're filling an enormous catering order, so you're SOL for the next hour".

It's just weird how they haven't staffed up and other strange operational quirks.

So, we're just kinda waiting for that to settle down.
