....with lots of beer waiting at the destination.

a few guys said they wanted to go, so i thought I would post this up for them. with plenty of time to get days off, and/or figure out if they want to go.

here are the dates and details for the road trip to Rocky Point.

May 18th (thursday) take off early in the morning. and haul ass south. probably thru Hollister to Coalingua and then meet up with IH5 somewhere, and add one or two more riders from S.L.O.

if we make rocky point the first night that leaves 3 nites in Rocky point to drink beer, tequila, eat some kick ass mexican food, some beatles, hang on the beach, and shoot fireworks all night long, and drink more. (i'll post pics. of our last rocky point trip)

then sunday, May 21st, ride back. I'm probably of the mind, to definitely come all the way back to Oakland on that day.

the first day out there, has the added time to be broken up into two days and if needed, i'm up for stopping in Yuma, Az.

there is a roger clyne concert in Rocky Point, and if anyone is into that, they can check it out. it's saturday.

i've calculated 816 miles from my doorstep, Oakland, to Rocky Point, Mexico.

I would like to enter Mexico south of Yuma, Arizona at San Luis Rio Colorado, and then ride east on hwy. 2 to the cut off. I also want to see if the road thru the biosphere park is paved or at least in good condition to cut thru and then make it to Rocky Point.

If you guys have any questions, let me know, pm me.
i'll pm you guys as well. (yellowgixxer, 280squaggler, wazzuFreddo, pelikan)

i'm in oakland, and work 3 nites a week, so have plenty of time in between to hang out, or sit and talk about the run.

i don't know if you guys have done long runs, on your bikes, or how fast you move. I am pretty efficient, and quick on the bike, and on long trips. when making time, I gas up quickly (can be done in less than 5 min and back on the road) and rarely take breaks. i'm happy to bend that to help other guys. but for those that might not be up for pounding away 800 miles, moving fast to very fast sometimes, you might want to wait till i take a ride somewhere nearer. cause the summer is heating up and the bike is running awesome.

i'll be on the monster (M900) for this trip.

for you gsxr guys. my buddy rode with me from san diego to El Paso on his Hayabusa, no problems, actually, i've found no real problems on the open hwy. on those sport bikes.

anyway.

i'm doing this. if you're up for it. let me know. if not, no worries, i'll bring back photos, and ride it on my own.

cheers

p.s. (EDIT) I should post this too, since it's a trip into Mexico, ABSOLUTELY NO GUNS! mexico has a no tolerance policy on any one bringing guns into mexico, even one bullet on your possesion, if found, will have you in jail with Pablo the goat fucker and you don't want that. okay, disclaimer off. hahahaha

EDIT TWO: while it is more convenient and easier all the way around to have a passport, going to mexico isn't that hard without a passport. The southern border is not as strict (on the way into the U.S.) as the northern border with canada. go figure. the mandatory use of a passport to get back into the U.S. will go into effect by the end of this year, if I recall correctly. good proof of I.D. and maybe a birth certificate to not have to waste time at the border always good. at worst they can pull you into secondary and check you out completely.

EDIT THREE: not newbie friendly. :( 800 miles in one day, above average speeds, nothing reckless.

I think I wanna do this. I will take the one and only bike I have. RC51

Wow this trip sounds too tempting

I used to do 750 miles from Union City to Phoenix in a car in a single day 11 hrs

Never actually did that on a motorcycle
Always wanted to ;-)

I will be free in July + August timeframe
Would love to do a trip or a short trip as u mentioned . So keep me posted

But this is my idea of a cool ride as well ...

Thanks
Vik

aww, man, that sucks. sorry to hear that dude. there is the whole summer ahead of us. and I feel like some riding up in the eastern part of california too. do a couple of the passes north of yosemite and stuff like that. some gambling in reno, or south lake tahoe overnight and such.

stay in touch.

Good lord this is tempting. I could swing the time, but I don't know if my ass is up for an 800 mile day, and I'd hate to be the boat anchor of the group. When you say fast, how fast are you talking? 90s? 100s?

Are you guys camping down there, staying in a hotel, or passing out in the gutter?

well come'on dude. just buy some paki beads and stick them on the seat. i'm trying to get a sargent seat before I go. cause it can hurt. no gutter sleeping this time. i do enjoy some comfort as well.
this is where I put aside a room for 3 nights. thursday, friday, saturday. which means we will stick to the canonball portion of the ride. then we can figure out if everyone wants to break up the return trip (due to hangovers, sunburns, hangovers and such)

this is the hotel: http://www.hotelbaja.net/
it's a couple hundred meters from manny's restaurant/bar/grill all around beer drinking place on the beach. this is where the tickets for the Roger Clyne concert are available at, if any of you are interested: www.azpeacemakers.com
i'll probably try and get a ticket.

EDIT: pacifisticuffs, as far as speed, probably nothing break neck....average 80mph, probably, some areas to pick up speed, others, will be slower, there will be stops to rest, and we can get some food. but any time spent off the bike, adds to the time in arrival. ie. later.

squid vicious, do it dude, you've got the bike for it. shit, gary eagan took that multistrada and rode it from prudhoe bay alaska to key west in 3 1/2 days.

and I would say add on that monday as a recovery day, it will be needed. thursday the 18th to Monday the 22nd.

laters

so roll call:

me
Stan23
squidviciouus (maybe)
pacifisticuffs (maybe)

and I think I got two other guys to go that are hashers, and two more friends from arizona that will meet us down there.

don't worry dude, we'll work out a payment plan. you might want to bring your kneepads! hahahahaha

kidding dude. sweet. it's on then. i'll pm you and the others more detailed info.

do you have a passport?

I'm gonna confirm I can get the time tomorrow. After that, I'll get another room. That'll give us two guys per room if it's me, Rick, Stan and Brian. Sound good?

I'm stoked! :cool

Aaaaahhhhrrrgg....I'm 50/50 at the moment. The FZR is running very poorly and I have a 2day at Thill June 2/3. I'm gonna try and get it sorted out this week and weekend, I have a rally I'm doing w/ the bimmer crowd memorial weekend, so it's basically this coming weekend and the next to get her sorted out. If I can get the Fixer to run, I'm in.

Rick, where can I get those bead things for the seat? The stock Duc unit is a fuggin' plank. I'v done 500+ on it, but that was 10 hours of twisty, no slab.

dude, you're going!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let me know if you need assistance in getting the fizzer running.

the paki beads can probably be found at most auto parts stores and/or sears or places like that, probably in the auto accesory section. try wal-mart too.

there is also the gel seats pads, that have straps on them, and you can tie it down to the frame around the seat. that might help. yeah, I know the feeling.

dude...do it man. you can go.

pacifisticuffs, let me know as soon as you are sure you're going, and I can call about another room. the only unfortunate thing about Rocky Point is that it is pretty much the only place for the Arizonans to go to the beach, and the mexicans know this, so the prices are a bit gouged, and also it will be a concert weekend, so most rooms are booked, or gone. but we might get lucky and find another room. no worries.

as for paperwork. if you have a passport, that's better. if you don't, then you can go to the passport office (don't go thru the US post office it will take too long) and they can expedite a passport for you guys in less than 10 days. motorcycle paperwork, just bring a copy or original receipt that you guys got when you got your moto tags. as long as it has your name on it, you're set on that side of it.

any more questions pm me, or post on here.
