dayum Kurt, glad your and your motard were agile enough to avoid tragedy.
sheet like this makes me want to do violence, I swear.
it's one tihing to exceed the speed limit another thing entirely to pass another vehicle on a blind corner.
I hope this pea-brain gets a talk from the local enforcement that changes his driving habits.

My habit is to set up to the right, and to hug the right all the way through the turn, even though it does not provide the best line of sight.

I do this as well, in spite of the usual advice to go in deep so you can see through the corner better. It's always easier to suddenly go wide, than to suddenly go tight IMHO. :thumbup

Climbing up the hill at a spirited pace, I flicked it into one of these blind rights. At about 1/3rd of the way through a red Miata with the top down and a young guy behind the wheel appears coming the other way with both of his inside wheels on my side of the yellow line.

First thought, "Shit! :wow"

Second thought, "Good thing I'm way over to the right."

About the time that second thought was forming, what should appear but a silver 350Z trying to pass the Miata on the inside! Oh fuck yes, this shithead is trying to go inside of a car that is already in my lane in a turn that was a blind left for both of them. :mad

This brings to mind the poor rider that met up with the Lexus car club what, 2 years ago? Highway 9 was it?

Glad you made it out of the situation unscathed. I'd suggest you at least write complaint letters to the DMV as well as the CHP so that if Mr. Divine ever gets in an accident, they have a record showing his 'callous disregard' or whatever they want to call stupidity this week.

What an idiot!

I hope he gets taken off the road before he kills someone......

Pics of the car. The wheels and the lights are pretty distinctive. Was this him?

:wow I think that was also the same car that tried to run me and a few other riders over when we were coming from the Moraga/Lafayette area. From what I remember, we started to go on the twisties at night, making our way into Redwood... and I noticed a car was tailgaiting the shit out of me... so I pulled over to the side, and he blew past me. He did the same to my friends I was with and we all pulled over to the side.

Not one minute later, he comes back around and hauls ass towards us, but leaves. It was one hell of a night.

Glad to hear that a seasoned/serious experienced/savvy rider, (That's You Kurt) was there. Inexperienced, chowder heads, don't fair so well, under the pressure of meeting the hazzards. :teeth

Thanks for the kind words. Truth be told, it was more habit than skill that saved me. Before I even saw him, I was on the line necessary to avoid contact. The main thing is that I didn't panic, fixate on him, change my line, or grab a handful of brake.

Good reminder. Very similar circumstances. IIRC, in that case the driver stopped. I'm not sure I would have been so fortunate.

Thanks, Lou, but luck had a bit to do with it too. If this guy keeps up his antics he will take someone out. It's a matter of "when" not "if". I'll see what I can do to urge LEO's and the DMV to deal with him appropriately.

Probably no great surprise that I didn't sleep too well last night...... :|

from the looks of it, he seems to have pretty good control of his ride. so why such douche like driving in the twisties? :dunno

All our LEO's are pretty much occupied today :)rip). I'll pose the question in the LEO forum with a link to this thread - and all your fine detective work :thumbup - later tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks again, folks. :)

Probably because he wants to be just like the guys in videos like this:

Basically, he's just like a squid that watches too many Ghostrider videos.

EDIT: Good job, Kurt. Let's get this guy off the road before he hurts or kills someone :thumbup

Hard to say what "luck" is. And... making your own "luck".

Thing is... You did all the right things, before even seeing the event start, and as the event unfolded.

Welcome to my world :thumbup And congratulations for still being in the world. :cool

Dang Kurt - that makes my hair stand on end. Two vehicles over the double on a goat trail like Pinehurst. You'd do everyone a favor by reporting this douche before we have another :rip thread.

Question... Do you start your rights towards the leftmost portion of the lane and then as you get to the corner drive in (aka late apexing), or do you hug the right hand all the way?

Thanks, Mickey. I know it's contrary to conventional wisdom, but on roads like this where I believe there is significant risk of the situation I encountered, my practice is to start on the far right and stay there all the way through. It's not the quickest and it doesn't give you the best line of sight. You can argue that it's not always the best. But in the scenario I encountered, it provides the best chance of staying out of the way.

You know, it's a "horses for courses" kind of thing. There are situations where I follow the late apex approach, and others where I do what's described above. YMMV.

How do these idiots finance these expensive hobbies with cars like that?

They live at their parents, don't pay rent, the car is not that expensive anyway (30K for 300hp), they take a loan on the car... I thought you knew how these money affairs go? ;)
