DIY Arcade machine

You deleted all the partitions?

OOPZ.

The Art looks good though. Needs more Akuma and Sagat, IMO.
yeah unfortunatly i was sleepy at 3 am and thoguht the inwdoes installer was gonna format the 65bg ntsf partition again but instead it was the whole thing. fuck me running

^will be added in the new one ill make.

thanks for your offerings

Yeah, just so you know, I am sure there is more than two people interested in how this all works out.

Count me in!

^I thought the arcade was really cool.

im sure if i built that on top of the arcade i think my girlfriend would stop joking about killing me and actual do it.

Just to note, I have all MAME roms updated, along with all CHDs, marquees, etc and I am more than willing to share. The entire directory is 102 GB, so you'd most likely have to bring an external hard drive over if you want all of it. I'd rather not burn 25 DVD5s, or 12 DVD9s...

that would be quite epic of you to share.

I REALLY want to build a SF4 arcade after seeing this thread. Is the game even available? If anything, how hard would it be to use my PS3 as the gaming system?

<---knows nothing about building a arcade

after playing sf4 i give it a meh, i like the 2d ones best.
street fighter alpha 3 and street fighter 3 3rd strike are my faves.
i think sf4 should have been renamed into the ex series. the 3d animations arent very well done imo. although i will say its the best 3d street fighter they have done. but i would have been happier if they had have just used really high quality sprites like in guilty gear 2.

what are peoples recommendations for a front end, im starting to use mala but am interested in using maximus arcade and mgalaxy. i would like the idea of having random music tracks play when selecting a game.

and pete, you would prolly best of getting the xarcade stick and using a blue print to make what your talking about, using the ps3 would be no problem as the xarcade will be able to talk to it ok.
do you have halfway decent woodworking skills? as long as you have time its not too hard. slap an lcd and a decent set of speakers in there and you would be okay, you can even install linux onto your ps3 and run mame too.

AAAAHHHHH!!!!! fucking jack hammering weasel!!!

so i was trying to edit my hard drives partition to install windows on it side by side cause i had a lot fo stuff on my ubuntu install and didnt want to loose it. so i used gparted to shrink my ubuntu partition and made a 64gb ntsf partition which should have been more than enough room to install xp. so all is good and i go to install xp and i entered in the wrong command and reforatted everything.
fucking awesome!
all my roms and the art for the marquee is gone!
so i gotta start from scratch. i got xp on and have downloaded the roms again and haver started messing with mala and getting the computer ready to be setup as a mame box.

its the marquee art that has me really frustrated cause i didnt have any backup of it except for a jpeg but it isn't the finished version i had. so thats gonna take a few evenings again....

I got a program for you if you still need it, it's basically the program the professional recovery services use to recover stuff from bad drive's. doesnt matter if you destroyed the partitions and reformated the drive cause the info is still there:thumbup

oh and i forgot to mention im totally following this post as im going to start my own build as soon as i sell my bike, also if you want polished quarters I have a tumbler you can use, it only takes about half an hour with some corncob media and some NuFinish car wax to make them look new. if you need vinyl i have a bunch of scraps of that as well:thumbup

Cool, thanks. I'm not sure if I'm going to jump into the building an arcade yet. I'll have to see where I'm going to put it and figure out if I'm going to build one or just buy a box.

holy updates batman!
i have been busy with some personal family bussiness but i found a few minutes to continue the project a little bit.
the pics aren't as good cause they are from my camera phone. no complaining!

i mounted the jpac converter to the slide out board on the cab.

i cut a hole(no its not pretty is it?) out the bottom of the cab and inserted the computer and connected everything to a power strip. which i will drill a dedicated hole for it(the cord and a place to flip the switch) and will make button on the back to turn on the comp.

im using an old lcd monitor till i can afford to get the 27" crt that i want. its like a place holder. im making a temp bezel for it. sound situation still need to be worked out. ill have a temp fix soon but a permanent solution is comming in a while.

installed the new buttons and wired them up.(not finished int he photo and i still have to wire the extra 4 button that arent part of jamma directly to the jpac)

can barf help with the following,
any help to get rid of as much of the bois boot sequence as possible. i want to make this look not like a pc as much as possible. i have gotten the windows boot skinned.
also some arcade sound effects to use for opening and closing windows. i think pac man dying would be the perfect sound for closing windows.

Some BIOSes have a quiet boot option that will skip the display of a lot of the diagnostic information, and just display a splash screen.

Sometimes that splash screen is even customizable, although that requires someone pretty technical and familiar with BIOS internals.
