Do you wear a watch?

If someone wanted to hit me, they'd get away with quite a haul out of my drawer. $150 flashlight, $700 watch, $600 phone, $200 knife, $800 glasses.....what the Jesus?!? I just realized. Most of my crew are barely above the retarded level when it comes to job competence, but I guess they aren't thieves.

I mean, I have similar price point in toys I carry or have at home, sure, but dafuq do you have $800 Glasses for?

Prescription glasses are stupid expensive compared to off the rack sunglasses. My frames alone are $400. Then you start checking boxes for shit like polycarbonate lenses, Transition lenses, and so on...next thing you know it's outta hand. Hell, my last pair of Oakley Rx glasses were close to $900 because I got the AR coating too. When you're done...it sure as hell don't look like what it costs. Fortunately, insurance pays a pretty big chunk.

Moar show and tell time. Which one of these is $900 and which one is only $210?

My IC Berlin metal framed glasses with lenses would have cost $1200 before insurance. They set me back $550 and I LOVE THEM. Super light, transition lenses of the best quality. I will get LASIK at some point when I'm employed and have $5000

I was gonna do the laser thing and the doctor actually told me not to since I only have one bad nearsighted eye. Said I have natural mono vision or something like that.

OIC, if you have a 'scrip that makes sense to me. I was going to say, like Ray Ban, Gargoyles, Gucci, D&G, whatever, you are still only spending $150-$400 for top designer stuff usually.

I have a pretty amazing knockoff of this watch, a friend gave me. Works for me. :)

Ha :)

I wore a fake Rolly in San Francisco MUNI once, on a warmish day so I was down to a T-shirt. One (tourist I think) girl went gapey-eyed when she saw it while I was holding onto a rail.

Just in time we passed by a bad neighborhood and I decided the fake watch is not for me..

(BTW a friend gave it to me as a gift he said it was "like $20") This watch is currently broken, can't set the time, but it runs.

My pop bought one at a truckstop one time just because he was so amused it said Bolex on the face. I don't think he ever wore a watch in his life, but that tickled the daylights out of him.

What about the hamiltons?

I like them. I'd say equivilant to or maybe a little better than Victorinox. They make plenty of sub$1k watches and a handful in the $1-3k range.

Just don't get that funky triangle faced one that was in the MiB movie.

You know they are "the same" as a Tissot right? Same owner.

It really comes down to shape/band/color preference with this one (Hamilton). Actually opposite to Rob, I'd prefer a Tissot or a Victorinox, because a Hamilton looked in person *less* refined to me.

Lol. The Hamilton I actually wanted was over a grand, so I got a Victorinox because I was pretty impressed with what you got for the money. Almost went with a Tissot too.

Who owns them anyways? Swatch?

Yes.. "Kinda Swatch" but in reality a Mother company that owns all of Swatch and Hamilton and Tissot + 15 more. (that's because the Swatch brand was started in 1984, after all of those, so it's kind of a stretch to say it owns them.)

But I feel they are offering Hamilton just as a marketing + styling choice.
Some Tissots are more sporty.. some Hamiltons are either more classic or the lower-priced models are more "rugged"/military.

See these images below I bet the inside and the metal are exactly the same between these two:

Victorinox however is a separate company. That's why I feel they offer different quality of the case and a different design.
They did use "the same" movements as inside a Hamilton(from that mother company) but recently that's been changing. (definitely the same inside your chrono from 2010 ;) )

Oh well, unless you're Diego Maradona, you can only wear one at a time and I haven't worn anything but my Apple for the past two months straight now. I've got a Victorinox and a Luminox that I both love that just collect dust now. [/firstworldproblems]

One of my favorite watches to wear daily is my knock off Rolex. The only complaint I have about it is the stand by time isn't that great. After about 2 days if I don't wear it the reserve is dead. Picked it up in the Philippines for about 50 U.S. dollars. It was one of the nicer looking knock offs I saws.

i always wear a watch. out of habit, i put it on every time i leave the house. i've had a series of seikos over the past 30 years. not fancy but suit my needs, they keep time accurately, no problems, last for years, look decent and don't cost a lot.
