Love the insides/display-back of that Panerai, haven't seen this movement before.

Cycle 61 for $200 automatic it is actually not so easy new..try Seiko and 'Orient'.

In-house 1950 movement

Nick, a swiss mechanical will never be that cheap. The movement alone costs more (most brands get an ETA movement and modify it for their lower end watches). Add some complications (date, chrono, power reserve, perpetual calendar, ..etc) and it adds up real quick.

Here's a list of ETA movements and their prices.

Ever have problems with your iwc(s)? I read they aren't super reliable. Was looking at portofino chrono.

No issues whatsoever on any of the 3. The aquatimer I've had for 6 years. 4 for the BP and 2 for the Top Gun.

If I get a good deal on a Portuguese Laureus SE, I'd be all over it:

Looking at Chrono24, but kind of nervous about it.

Just make sure you never pay retail. I wouldn't worry about the quality of the watch. Also realize that you'll never use the chrono functions. Ever.

Jason, that's a late model Portuguese chrono.

Portuguese is my dream watch.
Especially the blue face.

I'd put brown strap on it tho

Yeah I actually don't know who this guy Alton is, nice I don't watch TV much, but I clicked on the article and ...no he doesn't talk about vintage IWC. :)
He talks about IWC *in general*

When he talks about vintage it's about buying and about his dad's omega. (Funky vintage omega displayed BTW.)

Is that bad? :dunno

So that particular watch shown isn't "vintage". Is there a differing opinion of what is and isn't vintage in the industry?

I went and looked at the website for the store in L.A. where he buys/sells and they appear to deal in both modern (with very limited selection) and vintage timepieces.

Not at all, man. Just saying it's not a vintage portuguese - They haven't spelled out IWC in a while.

In the 40s:

More watch porn:
Minute repeater, perpetual calendar, moon phase... and I dont know what else

Yeah, and its usually this seadweller deepsea. I like a hefty automatic [insert 1911 joke here] and even if this one tests some of my dress shirt cuffs; its still my favorite/daily.

I can't justify spending 10%-20% of my annual salary on a watch :(

Then don't. Nothing wrong with Casio, Timex, etc if all you want to do is quickly know the time with a flick of the wrist.

Blow big money on a watch if you really must because you just want to have something very nice and can appreciate the intricacies and craftsmanship of having a tiny little functional machine. Doing it to peacock your wealth is by far the dumbest reason to do so. Very few people have sharp enough eyes, and know what it is even if they can see it, to tell the difference between a $500 or a $5000 watch from more than a few feet away.

Oh want all that. I will have a nice watch one day.

I was so jealous when I helped my dad buy my brother in law a Seamaster Professional ceramic.

Well, and once you do get a nice watch, you want more! It's weird. In my industry and profession, they are like standard issue for sales guys. But, I don't like wearing a dive watch with suits. I need something with a black strap, that is dress/classy.

I want to wear my omega on days off. Right now, I wear it every day..

Been looking at jomashop too, seems like a pretty good outfit if you want new?

Shinola

The watch I have been eyeing lately would be in that category of not-overly-expensive; the Shinola Runwell with the separate second hand sweeper. I like the GMT they have as well - Rambler, I think. Neither are automatics, but Shinola uses Swiss part and builds in-house (in Detroit). A new watch company that can lead with an automatic would be ambitious, to say the least (if they are going to create them in-house). I'd sport anything they make - but a blue dial Runwell would be one sharp watch.
