Do you wear a watch?

I am thinking of buying an apple watch. What does Barf collective think?

PS: I have mechanical watches and fitbit. Want to get that apple itch scratched plus love the ecg functionality

Wait, they new one is coming out soon.

Not a fan of e-watches, they will be worthless in about 5 years. I mean they are useful but they are just like any other tech, essentially disposable. I've tried to adopt them and sue them but i always found myself wanting my old watches back.

I think a bracelet like the sony wena might be a good compromise.

I just use my s3 to track my zzzzz, it's amazing to see the differences of light medium and heavy duty, and can tell how many times either I wake up or get woken up by my gf

they can be helpful, if you use them for more than a watch. I love my apple3. most frequently used watch apps for me:

-find iphone, lol
-incoming txt messages (does very well for speech-to-text)
-health/exercize tracking
-flashlight (nice to not have to hold one in hand)
-timer (cooking, labwork, poker, etc)
-remote picture (will connect to phone, you push button on watch when ready to take the pic with the phone)
-music (phoneless and with phone near)
-navigation
-change watch faces

cons
-the face will scratch and can break (although rare...I did it)
-battery life a little more than a day

if you do, get applecare+. replacing the face is almost the same price as an entirely new watch.

It’s practically and usefulness is probably better than any other thing you can wear on your wrist. Even now after finally getting a big boy Omega, I still wear the Apple Monday-Friday.

lol obj wears a 190-350k watch in games on the football field, and its plastic :laughing

Richard Mille probably gave him the damn thing for free, not that he couldn’t afford it. Their brand is nothing if they don’t have rappers and ballers seen wearing their watches. I appreciate the workmanship, but my god those things are massively overvalued right now.

If i got a digital watch it would be to wear in addition to an analog watch somehow. I know Sinn makes such a strap:

my 2 month old automatic watch broke. WTF.

I am looking at the Apple Watch 5 now. Debating between the aluminum 44 or the titanium 44. I really want the stainless steel bracelet but it is damn near the cost of the apple watch--but classy AF.

The titanium with the SS bracelet is $1300 OTD! The Aluminum is about $800.

I think the aluminum comes with the Ion X screen vs. the sapphire crystal that comes in the other models. The sapphire will be stronger and less likely to break/scratch which is ideal as I'd wear it dirt biking. I can't find any definitive information about the newest gen and whether they are still using the Ion X screen on the aluminum (bottom of the line) version or whether they are using the sapphire display on all models now. The price difference makes me think it's still business as usual and the aluminum model only gets the Ion X screen.

It does seem enticing that it's 1/3rd the cost to stick with a plain jane base model aluminum vs the classy titanium with SS band. I could upgrade every year for less money than using the same one for 3 years in a row...and the internals are essentially the same. Pay for premium look is all. I really liked my Raymond Weil Maestro with the SS band. The apple one is somewhat similar and would look good while at work.

Not sure why one would pick a stainless steel band for a titanium watch. Is a titanium band available?

Not from Apple (yet).

The aftermarket stuff is not quite as sharp looking/functioning as the apple product.

This looks pretty good. Sure, not a perfect match, but still pretty slick. I like this over the rubber, velcro, and most of the leather options. I feel like leather is for more delicate applications but the watch is too big to be deemed delicate in appearance.

My iPhone with the stainless steel border looks awesome but damn the thing scratches easily and now almost looks brushed like the titanium offering.

OTD:
$930 for titanium + sport band
$1240 for titanium + SS link band
$500 for aluminum

The latter fits my budget very well...the former is a middle ground of the three.

I'm not easy on my things and want this to be able to withstand dirt biking and other activities I do.

The bracelets do not have all the features. ECG for example is a good feature in apple watch. But I hear you, mechanical watches last forever.

Thanks. Especially on the applecare part :)

IMO, Mille is trying to break into the durability market and steal some of Rolex's thunder.

Not that I'm wishing it, but I'd expect to find pieces of that Mille spread over the field after some NFL interaction.

Yea these newer smart watches need charging daily and then you gotta lug the charger with you when you go places :/

My pebble black/wht screen kept it's charge for like 7-14 days but now with the color screens and constant heartbeat syncing it and always on screen it kills the watch daily (s3 frontier)

You're already putting a phone charger in your carry on already. Some business folk have laptop charger. And maybe some other wall warts for other things. What's one more?

:laughing one more thing for me to forget cuz i dont usually remember about it, its rather bulky too its a bigger then the watch itself since its magnetic to the full backside of the watch+stand.

And yes i have had 2 trips where I totally forgot about it :thumbdown

Im so in the routine of coming home and taking it off, when packing its like a void, cuz I need to have my laptop, but the watch is already on my wrist before I go to zzzz and when I wakeup its usually a mad rush to get in the car and go for trips

I love this thread, can't afford 95% of these watches :laughing and I'll need to post my "budget collection" later but here's my daily that I wear.

Garmin Fenix 5x Sapphire Edition, looks hazy due because I put a matte/anti-glare protector on it.

I run/cycle/hike so I wanted something that I can use on all platforms. Battery life is great and the gps "trace-back" feature has saved me once before.

Since I've gotten a new iPhone every couple years (pulling the trigger on another tomorrow), plus all the cars have CarPlay, I've accumulated a decent collection of charge cables. So I just leave on in the carry on bag at all times now.

It's my second Apple Watch, so my second charging "puck" is also in the carry on bag at all times too.

That said...I'll probably leave the Apple Watch at home now, and rock the new Omega when I go on a trip somewhere.

I just saw a ad for a smartwatch that charges itself via your bodyheat when wearing it.....

Once I make it, ill get myself a fancy smancy watch to wear on trips and not have to worry bout charging like you said
