Dollar Shave Club

I got married in 2006. On that day, I bought a pack of 8 Mach 3 replaceable blades. I remember giving two to my wife a few years ago. I'm still on my last one. I shave every week or so, sometimes every ten days. It still shaves good enough for me. I don't get razor burn and the hair gets cut. I don't understand why everybody replaces their blades so often.

how is that possible.... are you shaving mustache only?

I wear a goatee, so sideburns and neck only. I'm looking at my razor now, and it looks haggard and the little gel strip thing is completely missing, but it still works! Try it sometime, it's not that bad.:frankie

Okay I will try, I'm going to chance blades only on the first of every month and see how that goes. This will mean only 1/4 my normal cost of new blade every weekend. Now to figure out what to do with the savings? Disneyland, a sportcar, retire early...

I got my Harry's starter pack... I must admit, best shave I've ever had! :thumbup

Still waiting for my Harry's order therefore still using the old mach 3 with the chin ebay blades. Even with a new blade and shaving after a shower it's like dragging a fuckin cheese grater across my face. C'mon Harry wheres my stuff.

Safety razor ftw, there is a little bit of a learning curve but once you start there is no going back. You get an amazing shave and razor blades are dirt cheap, even the cream of the crop Feather blades cost nothing compared to a couple Gilette cartridges (and you'll get at least a years supply).

It's important to shave properly with a safety razor. Many people are used to pressing down with the big wide multi-blade razors. That's the wrong way to do it. Also using the proper pre-shave oil and other tools helps as well. I used to get bad razor burn with the multi's and switched to a safety over a year ago. The blades are dirt cheap and work great. I cut myself less now. The key is the weight. YOU DON'T PUSH DOWN. You let the weight of the razor do the work. Safety razor's are designed for MAINTENANCE of facial hair, not a baby bottom smooth shave. My routine is oil-> lather with brush-> shave-> re-lather neck and re-shave-> rince cold-> aluminum oxide stick-> organic lotion.

Works great and only takes maybe 2 minutes longer than the old gel/multi routine I had.

Anyone ever go to a barber shop to get a shave or does that only happen on tv and in movies?
Why would you?

I had my gotee trimmed at a barber last week, that was great.

Didn't go for the full shave though

Ive never considered it but maybe its one of those things everyone should do at least once.

There's a barber near my house that only does shaves Sat. I've been wanting to go and finally will to check it out. I see it as akin to a ManSpa. We'll see how the actual shave is.

Good to hear and glad you like it so much! :thumbup

I went to the Art of Shaving in SF (free shave for raising money for Movember) and had the whole hot towel, preshave oil, straight razor shave and aftershave. It was a fun experience and something that was well worth trying once. Regarding the shave I get a better shave on my own.

for my participation in Movember one year I was rewarded with a straight razor shave at Art of Shaving. It was nice but I can do a better job myself with my safety razor.

haha.. didn't see MtnRider's post before I replied. what he said.

Before my wedding, I got an old school, hot towel, straight razor shave. Cost about 30 bucks and took about half an hour. Best goddam shave of my life. A good barber preps the skin well, and stretches it as he shaves so he's actually cutting the hair well below the surface. It took at least two days for me to see stubble again. It was a really relaxing, enjoyable experience as well.

Too pricey to do frequently, but as a special occasion, it's a great thing to try out.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome. Used to go to an actual barber; the barbers were hawt broads and they knew their shit. Rather get shaved by hawt chix than some crusty old farte. Geared towards dudes, got the shave a couple times and it was pretty rad.

Not all barbers were created equal, however. Worst haircut I ever got was from an old skool barber.

The Harry's order came today. Of course about an hour after I shaved.

Initial thoughts,
Sorta big and looks like it may be slippery with soap on it.
The blade cartridge is quite difficult to get on and off. Hopefully it will loosen up.
The cartridge at 1 5/8" wide is a bit wider than the old Mach 3.

I'll do the road test tomorrow.

just paused my dollar shave club membership to try to Harry's. We shall see how it goes. I shave frequently (head and face) and the twin blade with dollar shave club worked out pretty good for me. Curious to see what the hype is with Harry's.

The HeadBlade is quite literally the only way to shave your head. Much safer and faster than a traditional blade.

What's the advantage? I shave my head also and no complaints with a regular 5 blade cartridge.
