Well.

Just found out that Ducati will not cover my issue and it is on me to fix it.
Granted the bike is out of warranty.

The issue.. the little attachment that plugs in the kill switch corroded and one of the fork pieces broke off inside. They can get that out... however to replace the connector according to Italy it is necessary to replace the entire wiring harness.

So fuck me.. over $3,000.. so fuck me again.

And... a week before the Hoho Rally too. :rant

Anyone know of a wadded Multistrada?? Mine is a 2015.
A frankenbike version would save over a grand I would think.

Not sure where to go with this right now... it took a month to get to this point. The shop felt it was a Ducati fail and thought there was a shot at them covering such an obscure failure since I was a good customer. 3 Duc's total.

Oh well.. not that good. They said no after weeks of discussions. :facepalm

can you post a pic? What exactly broke off, was it the pin inside of the connector, or the connector itself?

If it was the pin, you can definitely replace that by itself. I've bought from cycleterminal before, great fast selection and pretty cheap.

Typical Ducati customer service. They denied my warranty claims while IN warranty.

I'm sure we can figure out a solution. Post up a pic. If Ducati can buy the connectors to build the wiring harness, you can buy the parts to fix it.

Worst case you can buy a harness off eBay for $100-200 and salvage the parts you need.

Yep. It can be a little hard to locate the correct connector parts, but they are available. And sometimes you may need a special tool to remove the connector or connectors from the housing, but it's a hell of a lot faster and easier than replacing a harness.

FYI, you may have to remove every pin from the connector to repair the one, but if you have the tool and have taken good photographs of the back of the connector where the wires go in so you know where to put them back, that's usually not a big deal.

Or, you can strip back the wrap around the wires so you can work just the one out.

Pix, plenty of good pix!

I have to go retrieve the bike to get pictures.

:(

Year and model?

And as others have said... connector type (photo) and number of pins.

Mechanics on the clock are good but they give up too soon because of lost wages...

Expect the Factory to recommend the next higher assembly due to liability

For best results find someone who is meticulous and never knows when to quit...

Does your plug look like this???

2015 Multistrada 1200S.

I have to get the bike to see the connector Larry.
I thought this was a minor deal. Now it is whiping out the riding season.

Thanks smash.

I have zero clue.

Hope you can find the plug. All the tech on the Multistrada is why I purchased the extended warranty and will sell before it is up. My gas gage is out about 80% of the time so to the dealer I go. :mad

This might help...

6 - Introduction to the electrical system of the Multistrada 1200

When ya get the bike back contact me so I can take a look.
One of my previous careers (as an EE) was a telecom tech and I did a lot of connector wiring. I still have several pin removal tools.
Also did a bunch of wiring at Zero while there.

Hopefully I can help.

Check with Scott over at Desmoto Sport in SF. He's the owner and used to be a race mechanic for Ducati I believe. He might be able to help you out.

If it's just one wire in the plug, can you wire around the plug with a jumper? Better than thousands on a wiring harness.

Thank you all!

I appreciate it.

What we really need is someone to volunteer to take charge of fixing the budman’s bike in less than a week for less than $3K.
Ouch

Well, maybe you can have a congenial visit with your bike and take some pictures?
I'm a 100% it can be fixed one way or another.

I'm presuming the connector plugs into the dash cluster. These are typically closed and often sealed. I believe it is a CAN bus system.

If it's the pin in the connector and the dash cluster pins/sockets are OK it shouldn't be too tough to fix. (if the replacement pin/socket is available)

Hey Budman, I hope this isn't too late; I replaced the dash connector on my 2009 Ducati 848 last year--I accidentally broke off the locking tab and thought it would be a long, horrible project to replace it. It turned out to be fairly easy and inexpensive.

I bought the connector from Corsa Technic; You can call and speak with them about your problem and they might be able to help.

I made this video documenting my repair; I hope it helps!
