Ducati Electrical cluster

You might be able to depin it using a clothespin, push wire towards connector, hit electric pin tab with clothespin and pull wire. You can likely decrimp the pin from wire, cut wire back a bit then reuse the pin. If you are afraid of bad crimp reusing pin hit it with one tiny nub of solder, worse comes to worse get a deutsch connector and rewire using that. You can probably get a connector kit for under 20 bucks, good news is it looks like an easy fix.

I keep wondering if other pins have the same, or pending, corrosion issues...

I will be washing the bike with a toothbrush, cup of water and wash cloth from now on. :laughing

Perhaps.. once I remove the pin (with that magic tool I don't have in hand) I can check and see. :thumbup

It's not a bad idea to put a dab of di-electric grease on the connectors before clipping together. Lubricates & prevents water intrusion.

Looks like my last day will be tomorrow so, apologies for delay on rounding up the pin tools.

Not to dispute any of the experts here, but forget the dielectric grease. What you really want is SL5 from standard motor products. It is an electrical contact enhancer. It removes corrosion, protects against future corrosion and makes a better(enhanced) connection.
Here is a product description: https://www.micro-tools.com/products/sl5-30-f
Get the SL5, not the SL22 (Aircraft).

Looks like good stuff.
But very expensive. (compared to dielectric grease)
Not only that... did you see the instructions...

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MIX STABILANT 22S PUT THE BOTTLE ON THE TABLE AND ALLOW ALL OF THE STABILANT 22 CONCENTRATE TO FLOW TO THE BOTTOM. LET IT STAND ABOUT 10 MINUTES OR MORE IF NECESSARY. OPEN THE BOTTLE AND WIGGLE OR SNAP OUT THE DROPPER TIP. PUT THIS IN A SAFE PLACE BECAUSE IT WILL BE REINSERTED INTO THE BOTTLE. ADD THE DILUENT OF YOUR CHOICE (EITHER 99 percent ISOPROPL ALCOHOL OR PURE ETHANOL) in a 4:1 ratio. FOR THE 50mL BOTTLE OF 22S ADD ONLY 40mL OF THE DILUENT. THERE ARE 10mL OF STABILANT 22 in the bottle already. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A GRADUATED BEAKER OR TEST TUBE THAT HAS THE MARKINGS FOR milliliters USE A RULER AND MARK OFF ON THE BOTTLE 4 times THE AMOUNT OF STABILANT 22 INSIDE IT. THEN ADD YOUR DILUENT TO REACH THE MARK. THIS SHOULD GIVE YOU THE 4:1 ratio.

Have fun with that.
I'll dab the dielectric grease.

$30K Ducati with carbon wheels...just saying! :laughing

:laughing:rofl:laughing
Get the SL5 version, not the 22. Ready to use right out of the bottle. And while it is $80ish, a little goes a long way.

Yeah I think I may have the tool to de-pin that too if John doesn't. I'd have to dig around as well.

Hey Kornholio…
Could you look for your pin tools?
I've been looking for mine w/o luck yet.
Still have several places/tools kits to go thru.

Gonna try to make it to Budmans this Sunday.

John, are the pin tools something like this in the Amazon link below? I'm thinking of adding a set to my toolbox before I need them :laughing

Bud, good luck on Sunday! If I can do anything, let me know. I can solder...

That connector has been baking my noodle.
First I thought it was a JAE or Hirose, and I've looked through Molex, AMP, Bosch and I have not been able to identify the connector.

Thanks for trying Soren.

John,

No biggie.. a friend who works on Mercedes said he thinks he has what it takes and can stop by after work.

Let us know!

That's not a bad price for that kit. It could come in useful.

My tools look a little different, but are basically the same functionally.
Most all connector pins, be they flat or round, are locked into the connector housing by a small piece of the metal pin body that is cut and bent out in such a way as to lock in when pushed into the connector.
The removal tools simply push in around the pin and along the connector housing and force these small strips of bent metal back to the pin body to "unseat" them from the connector indent meant to keep them in place.

Some are easy. Some a PITA.

Let us know!

Yes indeed, let us know.
I'll still message you Sunday morning.

She is fixed.

My bud Elliott (mercedes mechanic) came by this AM and was able to disconnect the plug and push the stuck prong out. A couple of quick tweaks to the small housing and when plugged in to the new starter assembly bliss was found!! :banana All done in 15 minutes.. :wow

Now I can change my avatar.. :teeth

Thanks ELLIOTT!!!... and to all that helped or volunteered to.
I appreciate the barf community jumping in. :thumbup

40 man hours of research and comments and a 15 minute repair... BARF so rocks.

Did you make a video of the repair? Us Ducati owners my need it. :teeth

Glad it is taken care of with out big $$$ to Ducati :thumbup

No I did not... I was holding the magnifying glass the whole time so he could see what he was doing. The stuff is so small. You could not even see the hole with the obstruction. He had to probe to figure that out. Crazy.
