Ev trucks - 2022+

It's a good looking ride, but I pretty much hate all the 3-ton high power EV's. They defeat the purpose at which point an EV is just a novelty to erroneously tell your friends how you're saving the planet at cheese and wine parties. Like buying a harley, it's buying a persona more than transportation.

So you're saying that saving the planet is the only point of an EV? Not even one other reason for owning an EV?

Thanks for the heads up Rob. Just put a reservation in too.

Funny thing about EV's in CA: the cheapest PG&E rate is $.24/ KW. When I run the numbers on an 82KW Model 3, I get about 50MPG if comparable to $5 gas. Not that far off, actually...and while fuel may fall in pricing, electricity never will.

You going to love it or list it when it comes in?

And what do you suppose is the better flip… get the longer range RS model in the summer (which seems to be the earliest you can get one), or wait for delivery in the fall and get the hot rod SS model?

Generally, if you’re going to be a flipper you want to get it in your hands as early as possible right? But maybe there will be more demand for the SS model.

It was the purpose in the recent resurgence of EV's, yes. Now it's just a quadruple patty cheeseburger. Doesn't mean it doesn't taste good, just means it's not really good for you.

Not sure...I've gotta replace my sister's car in snow country soon and thinking this may work for her...so that, or get my measly $100 back (which will be worth $82 then).

I didn't ask what the purpose of the resurgence was, I asked if you really believe that there really isn't any other reason to own an EV other than saving the planet.

Any other reason? People tell themselves all sorts of stuff about what they "need" regardless of technology, doesn't means it's true. Remember the thread about buying a Raptor for freeway commuting and how it "made sense"? Anyway, I think the vast majority of people buying a new 5klb+ EV will be doing it because they think they're saving the planet, or for pretentious reasons, but don't get too worked up about it, tons of ICE cars are sold for pretentious reasons just the same. Truck buyers are usually the worst offenders, saying they "need" a truck when the truck part isn't used 99.9% of the time, then the 0.1% is for some elective purpose that probably could have been handled with a $500 Harbor Freight trailer. It's a lot easier if everyone just shoots straight, then we can ditch the goal post moving and mental gymnastics. Lots of people just want to look cool, it's very simple.

Want vs need is real for a lot of people.

"I want four-wheel drive for when I go up to Tahoe."
"The last time you went to Tahoe was six years ago...in the summer." :laughing

That's gotta be the biggest segment of gas waste/auto pollution. They're going to go buy a new Rivian, which weight five tons. It's the ten-patty bacon cheeseburger of the EV world.

Mmmmm bacon. Last time I filled up my 800hp sports car, it showed I got 9.7mpg for that tank.

I need it. I need it bad.

So the Hummer EV tips the scales at just over 9000lbs.
The limit for driving a truck on HWY 85 is 9000lbs.

Does this mean they can't drive on HWY 85?
https://dot.ca.gov/programs/traffic-operations/legal-truck-access/restrict-route-85
"Sec. B17-5.3. - Trucks with gross weight in excess of 9,000 pounds prohibited on State Highway 85.
The maximum gross weight of vehicle and load on State Highway Route 85 from State Highway Route 280 in the City of Cupertino south and east to State Highway Route 101 in the City of San Jose is 9,000 pounds per truck or per truck and full trailer or semitrailer combination. State Highway Routes 17, 101 and 280 are hereby designated as alternate routes for the use of such vehicles that are prohibited the use of Route 85. (Ord. No. NS-703.5, § 1, 3-22-88)"

The Hummer EV tips the scales at 9,063 pounds, according to the test data, and the battery pack is a significant contributor.

There's a spy clip of the hummer ev taking an alternate route.

Rivian R1T curb weight is only 3.5 tons. The E-Peen Hummer tips the scales at over 5 tons :laughing
