Ev trucks - 2022+

How much worse are the roads going to get with these 10,000 pound behemoths bouncing around. The wheel ruts in hot asphalt are going to have regular cars dragging their undercarriage. BMWs with lowering springs getting high centered on the freeway.

You say this like it's a bad thing.

the new chevy silverado ev with 400 range and complete frame designed from the ground up for ev platforms seems at least on paper 1 step ahead of the f150 lightning.

They do spout 40kish for fleet vehicles, exciting times we live in

That's w/out the fed/ state rebates, right?

That concept is what doomed the Fisker Karma. People hated that when they stomped on the accelerator the engine noise didn't change.

Lots more wrecked Fisker, but...if it had an all electric powerplant and some interior upgrades, it would sell out. It's gotten to the point that I just tell people "yeah, it's Aston/Bentley/Maserati's new line, to not have to explain the whole damn thing. To date, no one's questioned that bullshit...but they all swoon over the looks. Go figure...

Batteries are heavy. The Rivian is the size of a Tacoma but the weight of a 3/4 ton (it's over 8,000 GVWR).

Hahahahahaha! Wait till the city slickers get their first registration renewal @ $1,500!

I really don't understand why so much of the truck market might be skipping hybrid. A hybrid makes a lot of sense for people that actually use trucks for recreation towing - boats, motorcycles, etc. My 4cyl Taco would be amazing with another 100 ft-lb from an electric motor. Hopefully the hybrid Transit and Tundra sell really well and shifts the market that way. And hopefully the new Taco is hybrid instead of full EV.

Cost. Volume producers don't want to continue developing small ICE powerplants and then mate that to an electric powertrain. All electric is future if not running an exotic ICE.

I'm dreading the ruts on 101 even more just for motorcycles. Hate how they grab your wheels.

As for BMWs getting high-centered, I LOL'd cause I haaaaate that slammed look let alone stanced. 9/10 never even take them to the track, which is the main reason for actually *needing* the lowering vs just wanting the look.

Yeah, big oof there. Also tolls once CA catches on. I could see something stupid like exemptions being made for them in a bill that gets passed (while simultaneously raising fees for everyone else) but it's definitely going to be a bit of sticker shock. Hell, even just getting their first SUV / 1/2 ton registration is a shock to some people. Of course, now they've also opened up a bounty / snitch program for those certain out of state plates...so that noose is tightening as well.

Ya it always comes down to cost... and margin. Thats also prob the main reason why plug-in hybrids aren't produced as much - too many expensive systems.

I like life better when cost isn't an concern :laughing. I've been following Dakar this year. The Audi RSQ E-tron is a ridiculous machine. The drivetrain is 2 FormulaE motors. And since their battery wouldnt finish a stage, they added an Audi DTM ICE attached to another FormulaE motor to act as a generator. They've already won a stage.

I think they even have an electric vehicle health care bill in the works...Get on board!

The E-tron Dakar car is sick as hell! Good post Rob!

That is SUPER impressive.

What is weird, IMHO, is that plug-in hybrids never really became that popular as I expected and so many people just when all in BEV.

I never wanted a hybrid myself because I viewed it as two systems that could break/need maintenance. BEV or Yummy gasoline please.

I agree that a plug in hybrid is the jack of all trades, master of none. Nothing pure about it.

It this time of transiition where fast chargers are not as ubiuous as gas stations, the PHEV does give piece of mind on the occational road trip.

Hehe I've seen a stock 80s/90s crown Vic do that trail, supposedly the guy did it all the time/daily

I think the key is he is literally idgaf bouncing on the trail instead of crawling and measuring inches of movement and giving throttle/brake to hold it just right

K, less impressed, but still...impressed. I wanna see the CV do it!

Box stock JGC, including the tires.

I'm waiting for the Rivian. It's on my list to replace my JGC whenever I get around to it, but I can wait.

My buddies and i think that a real hybrid truck, such as a RAM 1500, with a 3 cyl diesel and a big battery getting 45 mpg ish would be a seriously hard to beat truck. My truck gets 15mpg under the best circumstances and I wouldnt hesitate to buy such a thing.

They could even make it like a train, with electric drive motors and the diesel only charges battery. Make it charge your house batteries, etc...

Edit - yea, i know. They want to get ride of the ICE thing altogether. The world just isnt ready yet.

This doesn't work because efficiency isn't the primary motivator, or even secondary. These big fat e-trucks will mostly be purchased by people that are already commuting with their Raptor and haven't heard "cool truck" in a while, so it's time for something else.

PS. Luv u!

:wave. Seems like you've not been posting much for a while. I figure you just busy...

I get what you're saying, but i bet they could come up with "500hp, 45mpg" hybrid set up. Put some bumpy tires and fender flairs on there for the Raptor dudes...

Was mostly being a smartarse, because it's annoying how they're just catering to the hummer crowd now. Technology created to help with a cultural problem(gluttony), but then the technology ends up pandering to the cultural problem. Icky. I like your idea for a truck better, maybe more for a Dakota sized pickup than a 1500, but tomayto tomahto.

This guy is a goofball, but apperently Ford already makes the hybrid I've been asking for. He says 36mpg on the highway...

Say what did you say a hybrid f150 will get 36mpg? He also has fx4 and 4x4 package after that I just stopped watching the video.

There is no way unless he drives like 50mph behind 18whreelers on the freeway to get 36mpg.

No fukn way, now if you were telling me it was some single cab 2wd and he hypermiled it, then yea
