F*CK Facebook!

I agree, the best deals are on marketplace (and sometimes offerup and nextdoor).

CL has always been trash, the interface was designed by a 2 year old, and car dealers list the same car 10 times with just a slight change of words in the heading.
CL look like its from the 90's, but functionality and searchability is ligtyears ahead of FB.

suspended for 'actions', which is really about liking comments
WTAF lol
The thing that bothers me far beyond anything else is their insistence that I turn on my video so that they can clearly identify me with a multiple angle image of my face.
W T A F .... lol .. :laughing

so... was that a "newish" account? Trolly actions much?
Anybody else see this shit?
no.

yeah, it used to limit, not start, but at the beginning it was limited to only .edu addresses.. That was in like 2005-07 perhaps. You imaged the opposite.

I've had this account for over decade, originally got it because one of my clients wanted me to do some sophisticated FB functions like logging in and querying for info on people using their site. I never allowed more than 50 friends, a lot of butthurt from people with friend requests but it didn't make sense to fill my feed with a ton of shit I wasn't interested in. Now FB has filled it with a ton of shit I wasn't interested in.

They have definitely gone downhill, especially in the last 3-4 years, accelerating over the last couple years.

hate to break it to you, the same happens to people with more than 50 friends. 300 or 500 it's the same.

They have definitely gone downhill,

never denied that. it was MUCH better many many years ago (aside from lower size of images but oh well.)

but, there is something very new that you don't seem to be aware of (unless it wasn't obvious):
it's on purpose...

"The friend part has gone down quite a bit."

I got a message that I've had my account suspended for 'actions', which is really about liking comments that are critical of Trump. That is all that I've done besides correcting some BS posts by idiots putting up damaging posts for track and field where they done know WTF they're talking about.

It says I can appeal, but the first action they want me to take is to upload a video image of my face. WTF!

Anybody else see this shit?
Tenure portrait ; /sure to cause honest credibility with statements. Cause a boundary to BS post.
Like that.

I have never found a good deal or anything remotely resembling one on FB marketplace.

CL diehard here.

Now if all y'all would get off FB and get back on it, that's be real nice too.

Make CL great again

CL search and alerts is 100x better than fb

In my experience, FB attracts the clueless/lazy sellers who haven't taken the time to master the other seller platforms. And if someone's clueless/lazy, they usually don't know or care what their item is worth, so it's easy to take advantage of them. Because of this, all the top Bringatrailer guys get most of their cars from FB, and turn around and resell them for a lot more. CL on the other hand has a higher proportion of dealerships and car enthusiasts, who know what they've got and aren't gonna cave to lowballers.

I actually have a Facebook page. I signed up for it because my mother did and I figured it would be a decent way to keep tabs on her. She never posted anything so I never posted anything. I should probably delete my account.

I still enjoy Facebook for what it is.

I do remember back in the "good ol' days" when FB started and you needed a valid college email address to even sign up. That was way different than what we have today.

I seem to have somehow retained that as of this year or last, FB is allowed to siphon all your data even if a non-member visits a ‘public’ FB site. Yup, nope.

Pretty much this for me, but I didn't get on board during the .edu days.

I'm just in it for life updates from friends (he got a new job! she got engaged!), don't friend/follow people I don't know and generally skip over posts that look like reposts (political/sportsball/woman yelling at cat for the 95478635132th time meme)

There is a secret way (about as secretive as the In-n-Out secret menu, so a quick Google search) to get a chronological, friends-only feed which should help get rid of some of the junk.

Brett, just get on OF on another cell and get a cheap cam show. Mark fetish as "face fetish" then put the phones face to face. Might want to mute the audio though....

I still have FB because of family back in the Philippines. :/ But honestly, I should just delete my account.

And yes FB Marketplace is fucking trash. The search is fucking terrible. CL is the best...until dealers flood it with the same goddamn car every few days.

They just need to add the ability to create a public user with ratings. That's really the reason why people moved over to FB, for transaction confort. They're a bit more socially naive, so they're not awesome at vetting and end up having problems, so they think CL sucks, when really it's just that they're not great at picking up on cues.

HEY WATUP WIT DAT BYKE IT FAST OR WAT HMU GOT CASH R2GO

Nope vs hmmmm...this seems reasonable, I'd better call this boost mobile number and give them my home address.

I have just seen the third first gen tundra posted on Sac CL that seems to be by the same flipper/scammer I went to meet and ran away from.
Crazy low miles (55k on 2005), same ad copy, same price, recently undercoated outer frame pix, painted exhaust, signs of respray on body (missing emblems)...

Probably catching unsuspecting buyers over and over

This one?

Holy shit, did you go to Harvard? Facebook didn't become widely available to the public until '06, sooooo...

It was available to all known colleges with an .edu email at some point. You had to pick your institution from a list

harvard-only was probably only the initial 2-mo or 6-mo

(btw FB "marketplace" didn't even exist for the first few if not 5-10 years, so many posts above are moot///...)
