does anybody in the southbay/SSJ area build bikes on here? I am in the middle of a fixed build and need somebody to share their tools (headset/BB install etc). I can buy beer...

I have a Pinarello Treviso, the older model SL tubing frame, set up as a fixed gear.

Nothing like posing around town on an expensive bright red Italian vehicle with racing heritage!

I don't ride it enough though, so the freewheel and back brake are going back on. I hate fixie posers with a passion, but I've not made any snide comments yet...

I also am strangely attracted to riding in the dirt when fixed.

Anybody need a front wheel ? I have an anodized Velocity front (machined) to black sealed formulas. I'm also in need of a new rear wheel for the gf's fixed I'm building.

Damn.... its a 700c

Its a big deal around here too. School me... old ten speed frame, fixed gear, decent saddle and some flat bars? If thats the case Im heading over to the Goodwill store and take back all those old 10-speeds I dropped off

Mine.

And lastly, the bike that seems to stop traffic when I'm rolling down the street, both feet on the pegs, one-handed. :laughing

I returned my road bike and I'm building a Surly Pacer. STEEL BABY. I did the metric century at the Strawberry Fields Ride and I think I need a triple. I know, pussyville, but I'd like to do more centuries and not cramp up like I did on this ride.

I had to stop riding for a bit :(
I was riding a few hours every day, then my right knee went to absolute shit from all the tricking, whipskidding and back pedaling. No health insurance so I can't get it looked at, but the inside center of my knee hurts when i walk up and down stairs or down hills. Or when i ride. I've given it a handful of weeks to heal, them I'm gonna jump back on and hopefully it'll be okay.

Dude, seriously... if you're going to be doing tricks - get a BMX bike. You can do WAY more on a BMX and they're built for it. I don't ever attempt tricks on any of my fixed bikes, I save that for my 20". Skidding is horrible on the knees and I've seen nothing but bad come out of skidding when it comes to injury.

Whenever we go and flatland session somewhere guys on fixed gear bikes always show up. I mean, God Bless them for trying, but no matter how good they are on a fixed gear, even our newbie'est flatland rider can absolutely show them up on a 20". We always kinda scratch our heads wondering why they just don't either 1) Make their bikes 100% artistic riding bikes or 2) Just get a BMX bike.

20" bikes are way more fun for tricks - you can bunnyhop them (I now can get up picnic tables and over standing bikes, I have yet to see a fixed gear clear that kind of vertical leap) and the possibilities are endless. IDK, it's the same thing as trying to ride my fixed gear on some muddy single track. I guess you can do it, but I'd much rather do it on a MTB.

I love fixed gear bikes, but straight up, they're not meant for trick riding and skidding is horrible for the knees. And if you really want to go full purest, fixed gear bikes should stick to the track, but I ain't that l33t.

I know what you're saying Dion, but most of my peeps just do fixed-specific tricks in between riding different places; it's just like a fun addition to a ride. Simple tricks like wheelies, back circles and keo spins.
BMXs don't make sense for riding back and forth across the city with the quickness, so having a track bike gives me road bike mobility with the added fun of riding brakeless and the option of doing tricks along the way. Getting technical isn't what I'm after anymore.
We know when we're tricking that bmx riders and skateboarders alike think it's silly but the tricks, for me at least, are just a mid-transit perk.
I'd say whip skidding is the biggest problem for my knees, but popping the front wheel out of a backwards circle isn't helping either. Plus this new abuse is on top of 15+ years of skateboarding, which I'm sure isn't helping my cause.

^^speaking of fashion, deep vs, and dumb, illegal brakeless bikes...I got some new goodies for mine to get rid of the cheap heavy IRO components:
salsa stem
chris king headset
sugino cranks and BB
soma cog
components are now worth as much or more than the frame :| not sure how I feel about that.

Did you ever plan on selling your black Velocity set? haha I don't like how loud my wheels are right now.

^ that rear is pretty flashy :cool
Anyway, naw, I'll probably keep these wheels for a while because I can't really afford different ones. I'd offer to trade but I'm trying to keep my bike looking dull, and your green/gold combo wouldn't quite compliment my frame :laughing
However, my knee isn't getting better, so I may be parting this thing out if I have to stop riding all together :(
I'll definitely keep you posted.

Alrighty. What size is your frame? (in case I have to take it off your hands, or legs, rather) :ride
