I am having trouble understanding how dangling your inside foot off of the pegs helps prevent you from falling over. I am asking in earnest, as my roadracing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles on bikes in all sorts of countries and riding conditions have not served to support your case. :dunno

Not falling over is pretty cool.

Okay, I tried. No dice.

You should not be riding on the public roads. How did you pass the DMV test if you put your feet down when turning? Please stick to the parking lot and complete some training then come back to the public road when you can do figure eights without touching a foot down.

So apparently I was mean and feelings go hurt. Sorry, sort of.

Please go take some classes from professional riders, OP. If you are relying on sticking your foot out to save you, I fear for you life and I'm not kidding. Learn how to countersteer and how to use the front brake. There was the jokey part of the thread and the serious part, this is very much the serious part.

IBTL

I routinely throw a leg out during a turn a la supermoto

it's habit

my lack of experience likely started it and it's perpetuated my whole riding career.

it's fun and looks "cool" if done right :x

Nah, really? Is this a fake dirt-sliding thing like supermoto guys do on asphalt, or a WTF MotoGP thing that I am pretty sure does sh!t.

I can tell you that Dr John Hinds definitely does not recommend it

ha, really? your balance is so bad you can't keep the bike rubber-side-down while you're going through a roundabout? taking turns on the street? maybe making a u-turn or riding into a parking spot? (as previously stated, how did you pass your M1 test/CMSP class?)

(great minds think alike, planegray)
recently re-posted moto-medic lecture will give you (maybe i better say "should give you" since you're not the most open to outside advice) all the reason you need to keep you damn foots on you damn pegs:
https://youtu.be/MsZBXlTHPCg?t=1705
vid should start @ 28:25, if not please skip to there for relevant section. yes, he's talking about race-bikes at race-speeds but through the magic of physics the same forces (just reduced magnitude) still apply at street-speeds.

although at this point i hope this OP is a pro-internet-troll sharpening his skills for upcoming april fool's day. it's his interwebs, we're all just suckers.

I heard you, and some of our other more 'experienced' members routinely throw out their legs while riding. Wait, I think I'm confusing leg and hip. :twofinger

the first

ride a standard/naked like a dirt bike

in fact it probably came from my childhood dirtbike riding and carried forward. I never went sport bike until my late 20s.

AND I will add, I don't do on sport bikes or bikes with clip ons, just standard/real naked/bikes with bars :dunno

:laughing :twofinger Go back down to the bottom you! :afm199 :laughing

:laughing fine I will go back to the sink :cry :kicksrocks

Hey OP, don't know if you are still following this thread or not.
I'll start by stating that I DO NOT HAVE A PENIS, so what I say is not based on anything penis.

Your post makes me think that you are a new rider. I understand feeling overwhelmed with the traffic, both two wheel and four wheel around here. I get that scooters are scary adversaries on the road; however those scooters are our brethren and we should not stand divided (same goes for bicycles. )

In a perfect world we would be able to afford those 3 seconds of following distance, unfortunately, here in the Bay Area, it isn't a reality. Experience will overcome fear and serve to replace it with faith, in yourself and your machine.

Your comment about a foot down makes me want to bring you out and practice slow speed maneuvers and basic drills so that you can gain the confidence and skills to ride safely in traffic.

I know that we have been discussing doing this and I for one am willing to part with a few hours to give you a hand.

Motorcycling is one of the best things in my life, I would like the opportunity to share this joy if you are receptive.

Let me know.

Three seconds? You're delusional. In a crowded shithole like Berkeley, you can't expect any more than one second--be it a motorcycle, car, bus, or cement mixer. Get used to it...

I remember quite clearly stating in a different thread that I kept a 3sec gap no matter what - I've since analyzed that statement and done some real-world observations of my riding habits and I've come to the conclusion that, at the time, I was full of shit.

I really keep about a 1.5 - 2sec max distance, while constantly scanning for exit paths.

In a nut shell - I agree with DD

Just wanted to get that of my chest. :blush

EDIT: This has got nothing to do with my penis, but I do have one. Just one.

Quick question: Is it normal to have one testicle hang lower than the other two? Just wondering...
