Because of this thread I'm getting a black plate which I've noodled in the past as my current one is from 1994 and the reflective coating is peeling off.
As it is a sports car, albeit a Miata with a new near perfect suspension which means high cornering speeds, I don't want them trying to stick me with that $1000+ dollar fine for having a peeling plate and thinking I did it rather than father time.
So thanks all.

Where did I say it was the law? I commented on what cops did in practice, which, based on my experience is NOT waste time with front plate traffic stops. Funny, just a few years ago there was all this press that speeding was up because CHP didn't have the manpower to do much traffic enforcement due to officer shortages and accident volumes. Yet you think they're out there writing lots of front plate tickets? I guess I've just been lucky because I've driven right pass dozens of cops in the past year or so with no front plate on my car and I've never been pulled over. Weird.
